My sister and I went to see The Movie Sequel tonight. The short version is I haven't figured out just how I feel about this movie yet.

These are *extremely* random thoughts, as it is late and I need to sleep.

Let's just get the first part out of the way. I have never found much attraction in a J/E dynamic. They're too much alike, and they'd never actually last beyond some de-lusting sex. One would eventually have to kill the other and take over the ship, LOL. So this was not my favorite part of the movie. THAT SAID ... I can appreciate the dynamic the writers were perhaps going for. They wanted to do something unexpected and shake things up.

Is it just me, or did this one go out of its way to heterosexualize Jack as much as possible? Just wondering if I'm the only one who saw that, or if I'm just making shit up.

Will getting his own story was quite nice. He gets to meet his father (and we get to see where he gets his "noble" streak!), and I'm right - he does get his eyes from his mother. *G* His whole attitude toward Davy Jones in challenging him, the whole lashing thing up on deck - damn. Our little simple blacksmith has grown up.

Speaking of which - I think Will was PISSED OFF at the end. Sitting there throwing his knife into the table, not saying anything, and then suddenly asking if Elizabeth wanted to find Jack ... ohhhhh, someone's going to get an ass-kicking in the third movie. Thing is, will it be Jack, or Elizabeth? Jack is a pirate, and honestly, Will shouldn't expect anything different. Elizabeth however ... ah, there's the rub. She isn't supposed to do the things Jack does.

I think Barbossa should totally take Elizabeth off Jack's and Will's hands. Now there's a duo that could go places together.

What was up with Jack trading Will for his own soul? I have to admit, that's the only part I'm still having trouble squaring with my Turrow fondness. I know Jack is opportunistic (read above), but was the whole purpose simply to tear down the perception you get of him in the first movie (when you think he's backstabbing, but then he turns into this good man - so is this movie supposed to do the opposite)?

THEN AGAIN - Will *did* show up expecting Jack to just turn over his compass without fully explaining why, and then pulled a sword on the man on his own ship. It could be said Jack was simply giving Will a taste of his own medicine - "Fuck with me, will you, boy? All right, then ..."

They did have a few "moments" though, perhaps the best being Will showing up on the island. "How'd you get here?" "Sea turtles, mate. Strapped one to each foot." "Not as easy as it looks, is it?" *LOVES*

And, as much as the Turrow part of me disliked it, I must admit I snickered when Jack whacked Will with the oar - I leaned over to my sister and muttered, "Payback's a bitch, isn't it?"

I have a pointed question for the Turrow 'shippers on my f-list who get this far: Can you, or can you not work around what's been given you by this new canon? Because ... I sort of think I still can. *G*

More later, I'm sure.

This rambles for days...

Oh, yay, someone else who has seen it already.

I really liked it, but I thought, like you, that some parts were a bit weird. I was questioning whether my love of Turrow was the cause of it, but yo explained it nicely - Ms Swan and Captain Sparrow are too much alike. The thing is, each is right about the other - she wants freedom and adventure, he wants to be admired for something people don't want him dead for as well.

Please, give me your opinion of the three-way sword fight. I think it's an interesting idea, but the way that abandoned, decrepit mill showed up was weird, and the rolling, while great for action and hilarity, had a flair of the ridiculous.

And the ending - omg, the ending. I nearly cried - I love all manner of crossovers, bringing people back from the dead, revisiting old stories. GODDAMN, I can't believe they want me to wait til next summer to see the end. I think that When they all are out on DVD, I'll watch them all straight through (I still need to do that with LOTR, hmm). That ending floored me. I squealed. I'm such a fangirl.

You know what else I cant wait for? Seeing what you do with this new canon. I'm drooling here for some Veronica Rich magic. I'll be stuck to my lappy for days looking for the usual suspects' fanfic.

Yeah, I'm sort of waiting for that myself. The only thing that *immediately* sprang to mind as I was trying to sleep last night was a reunion scene where Will demands to know what the hell Jack was doing, Jack snidely and coolly tries to rebuff or wave him off, and they get into a physical fight that ends in Jack's bunk or on his big table.

Ack, missed this one. I think it was done for effect - "Lookie what we can do!" - but still, I fell for it. Humorous, more than anything, honestly, especially at the end when Will and Norrie climbed out, scowling at one another, and Will immediately falls on his face in the water.

Couldn't really say anything conclusively, having not seen it yet myself, BUT What Would Tyler Durden Do did mention this: http://www.wwtdd.com/index.php?type=one&i=1090

You, me, Turrow, ESSAYS MAN! When I'm rested that is.

Am I the only one who didn't get that not only was Jack trading Will for his soul, but that he was basically putting Will in a situation where he would get the key. Seriously, Jack has faith that Will will (whoa, that was weird to write) get himself out of the situation and bring the key to him. When Will shows up again Jack is both looking surprised ("Whoa, hey, the boy made it. Good job!") AND expecting Will to just let him do what he needs with the key. When Will get's out the knife and tell's Jack what he's planning on doing, then in the only time Jack actually threaten's him for real. Jack is okay with everything Will does up untilt he point that Will's plans interfere with his own.

Jack is opportunistic, but he's also smart, and if he can get someone clever and sneaky into a situation that will help him in more ways then one, he'll take it. I bet that it was probably in Jack's plan that he'd use the heart as leverage to get his soul and Will back. But the plan got a little fucked in the end.

But you can ALSO see it as, "Well, you didn't join me when you got that chance. I'm a lover scorned in all that! Also, you come up and start demanding things from meself, not even asking all nice like, and you completely failed to save me from angry natives. Who needs you, have fun on deck with the scary sea people, say hi to Bootstrap and all that. Oh, and if you can possibly get the key, do that and come on back, savvy?"

At least this is how I'M choosing to see it. :D

I could go on and on about my dislike for J/E, but I'd honestly just be ranting, and plus I tend to make fellow J/W fans look bad. But, even if I wasn't for that pairing, I still wouldn't be fond of J/E, because like you said, they are way too much alike and there's so fun in it.

Haha, the ending makes me giggle, because you'd totally think Will would be angry at both Elizabeth and Jack, yet you can tell there's still an eagerness about saving Jack. So precious.

And about the heterosexualizing of Jack, I have to agree. Jack's known business with the Tortuga women was quite enough for us to realize part of his sexuality, and I really didn't see the point of this J/E thing. I'd take a kiss between Jack and a new female mildly well, but Elizabeth is just... ugh.

But here's a video you might've seen already. If you haven't it is bound to make the Turrow fan within smile, simply because a single comment from Johnny.

I tell you what, they have so many kissing jokes on each other - like Orlando saying Johnny keeps trying to kiss him, and it's okay as long as he doesn't slip him any tongue.

YES. Lizzie and Barbossa forever!!

DUDE. They are so compatible. There's *spark* between those two, unlike her and Jack. I mean spark when they're just in the same room.

We should totally write a B/E.

B/E would be interesting. They'd be sparring for dominance throughout, and Barbossa's probably learned a few good tricks, especially now that he seems to be flesh and blood. They might kill each other, but it'd be worth it!

Oh man. I just got back from seeing it, and...oh, good bloody God.

I don't know. I can't quite reconicle my feelings of "WTF-?!" and "...w...t...f...". Seriously. Was it just me, or did it feel like, even though the movie was long, not a lot...well...happened?

I go this same feeling after I finished Half-Blood Prince. I thought Jack's character seemed a bit fucked, and not in the delightful way, too - I agree, the heterosexualization of Jack was pretty obvious. Bloody scared Hollywood, ruining the slashy fun. -_-;

Alas, I haven't seen a favourable review yet. They're all either "WTF!" or "Eeeew!"

Bugger. Now they'll either give up on PotC-III altogether and throw out a complete piece of crap, or they'll pay attention to the criticisms of PotC-II and work much harder to redeem themselves with something brilliant.

I don't think Disney is giving up on ANYTHING. DMC just brought in the biggest box office in a single opening day in cinematic history ...

Quick Points. (Spoilers obviously)

I completely agree with you; there were blatant moments where it seemed as though the writers and/or director wanted to deliver the message: Jack Sparrow is straighter than a ruler! He will never be attracted to men! The scene that upset me the most was when Elizabeth was dressed as a boy, and she said: I'm here to find the man I love. And Jack's reaction (his motioning to Gibbs to get rid of the boy, and his comment) really bothered me.

The kissing scene between Jack and Elizabeth seemed to be more related to Elizabeth's plan to cuff him to the mast, and less about any real feelings towards him. So I'm not worried about any future J/E moments. It's a Disney movie, Will and Elizabeth HAVE to be together.

The ending; I nearly screamed. And I have the bite marks on my knuckles to prove how hard I attempted to stifle my cries of shock, horror, and fear.

I thought the humor in this movie was fantastic. Two thumbs up. Funnier in many ways, than the original; but I loved the two for different reasons. No favorite.

Sorry, that really wasn't quick at all. Eagerly awaiting POTC3!

I soooo agree with you there.

I don't like Elizabeth. Even more so in the second movie than in the first.

Of COURSE Turrow shippers can work around this. Devotion will keep us strong. XP
