And I actually wanked on this one. (Honestly, I only gave my opinion in the comments, which was fairly mild, I think. Where else can I bitch about things that have no importance in the real world, my job, or my friends and family, but LiveJournal? This is what happens when you travel under a pseudonym. *G*)

OK, sports fans, read on: http://community.livejournal.com/arrrrr/362879.html

This post is very image-intensive; if you don't have a DSL or cable connection, you'll be waiting a while for it to download. If there are any J/E 'shippers on my list, I would particularly enjoy hearing your comments in MY journal entry here on this, with respect to if you feel either Jack's or Elizabeth's character has been altered to such degree to achieve these ends as to render them unrecognizable from the Jack and/or Elizabeth you like.

And maybe I'm wrong. Maybe each of them had this in them all along and there's nothing despicable about it?

I'm on that borderline point of laughing and crying. I'm simply not sure which to do. ;;^^ My college hookup is frigging slow, but even of the few pages that have shown I'm incredibly disturbed. Ew. Just, Ewwwww~. Lizzie's drawn kinda cute, but the dialogue is attrocious as is the story telling and all the characters. ;;^^ I like how Tia Dalma looks... but seriously, this was messed up. o_____0;;

Let the whole thing download, and then come back and tell me what you think. If you've only gotten as far as Tia Dalma, you're missing a LOT of what pissed me off from a writing POV.

Took forever to load. Ack. But yeah, it's horrific. It's like a horrible random JE-obsessed fan attempt at doing a first fanfic. o.0;; I want to make an icon of Bootstrap from the panel with just the first part of his speech bubble: "look it's a ship." XD That just struck me as really pathetically funny.

It was... so messed up, though. Blech. Anywho, I'm hacking away at that post-DMC fic I shared with you a while back. Definately taking all sorts of new forms. =p I've like got three stories going... Will's has been a little more developed but currently Norrington has mauled me and won't let go. ;;^^ It strange, AnaMaria decided to sail in, too, so I'm having an interesting time trying to write those two... And it's bizarre. Norrie's totally attracted to Ana. o.0;; Isn't it weird how characters can just totally highjack you sometimes?

(I is so sleepy X____x sorry for incoherency and rambling.)

And the ending, with Elizabeth all gung-ho in the front - "I shall lead us all to Captain Jack Sparrow, my pirate LOVE OF MY LIFE OMG!!!!11" Will's just like "K."

That was fucked up.

See, that was totally the "I gotta laugh or cry or both" point. ;;^^ The random huzzah toast and then Lizzie's really creepily gung-ho after the ewwy kiss of DOOM. And her creepy uber-femme panel when Jack's all uber-creepy-macho with huge hand touching her face. o.0;;

I mean, this totally was my huge reminder of why in general I hate American comics and cartoons as a opposed to general Japanese manga/anime.

Not to mention that manga DOES acknowledge that m/m relationships do exist.

And her creepy uber-femme panel when Jack's all uber-creepy-macho with huge hand touching her face

I noted that, as well. Him seizing her up against him in her cabin at night?? What is this, a Johanna Lindsay pirate-rape romance novel?

This whole thing is just an assassination of both Jack AND Elizabeth. They're better characters than that, their actors are better than that (as evidenced in the execution of those scenes, as opposed to how they're written for the comic), and it's just ugly.

=) I love that anime/manga is as wide in the variety of genre and plot elements as our entire collection of literature. ^_~

Wasn't that creepy? *shudders* That really grossed me out. Plus she looked so creepily young. The clothes made her look like she was a little kid playing dress-up in her parents' clothes.

I quite agree that it just slaughters the characters. I've eyed the T-shirts and birthday party supplies with the comic drawings and just been really appalled long before I saw the comic panels. It's just a gross, bare style that lacks artistic talent and acknowledgement of how the actors bring the characters to life. (I had to say I'm continually weirded out and rather uncomfortable with all the Jack toys, etc. that's out there... it's just so strange how mainstream Jack--who I basically Johnny Depp as to be honest--is.)

Elizabeth: Take up arms, crew, for we must SAVE JACK!
Will: ...Captain Jack.
Elizabeth: Actually, I'm the captain now.
Will: Wait, how -
Elizabeth: No time for questions, puny blacksmith! I, with my cunning wit, incredibly mad sword skills, and delightfully perky breasts shall single-handedly save my pirate love, and Jack and I shall be married, and we shall have lots of poorly written sex and babies!
Barbossa: Actually, Miss Swan, ye forget I'm the one leadin' this -
Elizabeth: Silence, Plot Device! I need neither your heading nor your large hat, for I am Elizabeth Swann, goddess and Mary Sue! *stomps off*
Barbossa: ...
Will: ... *coughs*
Barbossa: ...prob'ly fer the best ye never had yer weddin' night, boy, else ye just might've ended up a eunuch.

You deserve a cookie! (I've already awarded the Internet for the day to someone else, apologies.)

What a sad turn of affairs. Even when the movie itself (and the actors, working against a tide of trite writing, it seems) doesn't explicitly bear it out in a scene, Goddess Izzy must trump all else, including common sense and evidence to the contrary. Which is bad, because I liked Elizabeth in the first movie, and most of the way through this one.

You know, as little as I cared for Elizabeth seducing Jack in DMC (I can't say for sure if she could've outwitted him--they seem like they'd be pretty even for smarts, but Jack's much more experienced in matters of mind games, I should think), I can't say I much like the way she just passively lets Jack lay hands on her. Melts into him, in many panels.

"...And the woman he loves?"

And Elizabeth is leading this little expedition? O_O I mean, Jesus, don't get me wrong; under pretty much any circumstances, I'd jump for joy at a woman, Elizabeth especially, taking charge like that. But given what we just fucking saw and everything, it's like... WTF?

More than I like seeing women empowered - more than I like anything else in fiction, honestly - I like to see writing that makes sense. In the movie, she chains Jack to his ship to be eaten; that's bad enough, because it's not a logical progression of development I would expect from Elizabeth. But at least afterward, she's eventually weepy and guilty and appropriately hangdog for such a heinous act. In the comic, she's all bouncy about going to save Jack at the end LIKE SHE'S NOT THE ONE WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS DEATH.

I'm not prejudicial; the behavior I hate to see from female characters, I don't much like seeing from male characters, either.

Oh, and all that melting? Pulling her to him in his cabin? Putting his big macho hands all over her? Dear lord! Johnny is barely bigger than Keira, LOL.

"...side by side with his mates and the woman he loves." I'd laugh, but I think they're serious. Is that in the novelization too, or did it come from the vicinity of the writer's rear end?

Well, Tia Dalma looks great, even if everyone else came out not so well on the art end. Especially, Elizabeth. Man, maybe the writer loved her, but it looks like the artist hated her.

Me too. Ugh.

I didn't read the novelization, so I'll leave that to someone else. But the comic was put out by Disney, so I'd think someone had to approve its content.

"I am in love with Will's Ponytail."

Mwahahaha! I wasn't going to mention how funny I thought the artwork was - because that could be taken as passive approval of the whole thing - but...

It killed me that Will's hair was twice as long as Elizabeth's. And that it seemed to have a life of it's own!

Also, I desperately need an icon of Jack and Will at Tia Dalma's pointing to the Key drawing. lol.

I love your Bootstrap icon.

There were quite a few snark-worthy tidbits in that comic. I could almost hear Will Farrell deadpanning one of Davy Jones' lines - it went something like: "Clever. Now I am forced to curse you and not your son." Talk about a badly told story. :P
