More fandom wank, part II

And I actually wanked on this one. (Honestly, I only gave my opinion in the comments, which was fairly mild, I think. Where else can I bitch about things that have no importance in the real world, my job, or my friends and family, but LiveJournal? This is what happens when you travel under a pseudonym. *G*)
OK, sports fans, read on: http://community.livejournal.com/arrrrr/362879.html
This post is very image-intensive; if you don't have a DSL or cable connection, you'll be waiting a while for it to download. If there are any J/E 'shippers on my list, I would particularly enjoy hearing your comments in MY journal entry here on this, with respect to if you feel either Jack's or Elizabeth's character has been altered to such degree to achieve these ends as to render them unrecognizable from the Jack and/or Elizabeth you like.
And maybe I'm wrong. Maybe each of them had this in them all along and there's nothing despicable about it?

Date: 2006-08-07 12:34 am (UTC)Not to mention that manga DOES acknowledge that m/m relationships do exist.
And her creepy uber-femme panel when Jack's all uber-creepy-macho with huge hand touching her face
I noted that, as well. Him seizing her up against him in her cabin at night?? What is this, a Johanna Lindsay pirate-rape romance novel?
This whole thing is just an assassination of both Jack AND Elizabeth. They're better characters than that, their actors are better than that (as evidenced in the execution of those scenes, as opposed to how they're written for the comic), and it's just ugly.

Wasn't that creepy? *shudders* That really grossed me out. Plus she looked so creepily young. The clothes made her look like she was a little kid playing dress-up in her parents' clothes.
I quite agree that it just slaughters the characters. I've eyed the T-shirts and birthday party supplies with the comic drawings and just been really appalled long before I saw the comic panels. It's just a gross, bare style that lacks artistic talent and acknowledgement of how the actors bring the characters to life. (I had to say I'm continually weirded out and rather uncomfortable with all the Jack toys, etc. that's out there... it's just so strange how mainstream Jack--who I basically Johnny Depp as to be honest--is.)
