AWE DVD

The DVD is out in some parts of the world already, and I was reading a scan of part of the box in someone's journal. (I won't say who they are just in case they don't want anyone to know, or get swamped - unless they give me explicit permission for a link.) Since this person has posted a link to their entry in a discussion community, I feel safe in now providing the direct link if you haven't yet seen it.

Two interesting things:

First question: What does the future hold for Will and Elizabeth? Now that he's captain of the Flying Dutchman, is she going to wait for him? Answer: True love never dies, but their story is yet to be told.

Second: Since Will honored his destiny on the Flying Dutchman, in 10 years does he get to return to land for good, thereby freeing his father and crew? Answer: Every 10 years, Will may step on land for one day. He is bound to the Flying Dutchman forever.

There are a few others, too. I don't know if these are on the U.S. DVD, but I'm betting they are. Be interesting to see what fandom reaction is to these (especially that second one, given the writers' insistence on the "only 10 years' service" thing) ...

If Bootstrap didn't drop dead when Will told him he was free, don't see why the rest have to do so.

Consider, though, that Bootstrap didn't accept his freedom, so maybe one has to be complicit in wanting to leave the ship, as well? Also, if you do die and you're on the sea, you gotta be ferried Over anyway ... why drop dead on the deck? You can be far more useful helping the crew on the way there. *G*

Well, if the others asked for thier freedom from Will, I don't see Will really denying them. He offered freedom to Bootstrap, so I just extrapolatw that he can grant whatever freedom he was going to give his father, he can give the others.

If its freedom in the sense that their souls now belong to them again and not the Dutchman, and they can live as mortals, then not only does it explain the green flash as the Dutchman leaves pre-credits, but also for Will's flash as he returns post-credits. One would have thought that he was returning to a mortal life with his soul also unbound to the Dutchman, but whatever.

I'm not sure if they can come back or not, to the land of the living. I really think that green flash was just done for effect - the *finality* of knowing there's been a crossover, that Will is lost to Elizabeth for at least ten years, to induce some sniffles in the audience ... although the fact they'd already said it means coming back to the land of the living makes no sense at all. *shrug*

That's basically another thing the theory is trying to rectify; green flash is when a soul comes back from the other side. But what you say is essentially what they did, but I'm trying to apply logic of the fannish kind. Which may not actually be logic at all, hehe.
