Drabble Prompt 5 for
potc_dogwatch
Title: Open Water
Rating: G
Disclaimer: This one’s a toss-up; he may belong to Buena Vista and Bruckheimer, after all.
Summary: A Turner goes to sea
Spoilers for AWE: Most probably.
Each night, he’d fallen asleep to the box’s steady thrumming. It had been constant for seven years, since he traded the heartbeat of his womb for the reassuring wooden thunk of his father’s next to his small bed.
Now it swayed with him on the vast ocean. Mama said he couldn’t be harmed upon the sea. It had been simple to cast offshore in the rowboat while she and Captain Jack slept – to be free, like Mama wanted to be.
William ran a small hand over the top of the chest as he excitedly waited to meet Papa, at last.

Date: 2007-05-05 04:25 am (UTC)What you said is basically the reason that I don't want to go near KTTC after AWE is released. I've heard enough horrid things about Will by JE fans (why don't we just throw him overboard? who would care? <--GR!) that I don't want to think about what bitter JE fans are going to say when they don't get their way.
And just to keep this from being viewed as bashing, this is just a few specific fans that I'm talking about. I'm in now way generalizing or referring to the entire JE fanbase with what I said.

Date: 2007-05-05 04:41 am (UTC)I'm a catty bitch to the ones who annoy me. I mean, I'm just a catty bitch generally, but I think the ones who take great offense are the ones who NEED to. Everyone else just ignores it or rolls their eyes. "There she goes again" I hope they say.

Someone on KTTC mentioned that, with the wording in either the novel or the script, it seemed almost as though Will would be able to return to land in ten years if his lover remains faithful, so that gives me hope, and definitely rules out a possibility for JE because Elizabeth isn't going to go fooling around with anyone no matter how lonely she is if not doing so means that Will can return to her permanently in ten years.

Date: 2007-05-05 05:22 am (UTC)Taking the other side of the argument, according to Jones' backstory, he cut out his heart because his lover left him and he couldn't bear the pain of it, not so he could become captain of the Dutchman. So why in the seven hells does Will have to give up his heart to be her captain?

Date: 2007-05-06 11:54 pm (UTC)That's the question that I have, as well. I remember everyone assuming that the heart being ripped out part wouldn't be forced on Will. I'm not sure how or why that ties in, especially considering that Davy ripped his out. *shrugs* Aw well, at least it's in safe hands. Hehe. Hopefully.
