Why is it so difficult to understand that the longer troops stay in Iraq, the more will die? If we admit we're not effective any longer, why condemn more people to early death?

Bah. I'm tired and pissed off now.

The even scarier question would be:

Where are these exrta forces supposed to come from, when the military is stretched as it is?

This is exactly the "change of course" I'd expect from Bush.

"What we're doing isn't working, so let's do even more of it!" Because, of course, doing anything else would be admitting he made a mistake, and he can't do that!

And (totally aside from whether it's a good idea or not) if the Army & Marines are having trouble meeting their recruiting goals (5000/year) now and the Reserves and Guards are flatly failing to meet theirs, WTF makes Bush think we can up the size of those forces by 7000 a year for 4-5 years?

Read the first paragraph of this entry (http://veronica-rich.livejournal.com/75711.html) I posted two months ago. (I link because I want to be able to say I was the first to point this out well before the election took place.)

I don't think they can push a draft through Congress. Not only does the Army thinks it's a bad idea, it'd be political suicide, and the Dems have to know it; too many of them are survivors of the Vietnam era not to.

Considering the Dems have been Neocon-Lite for the past few years - and many voted to support Bush for Iraq back in 2002 - I don't take anything for granted anymore. Price of cynicism, I guess. But besides that, how's the South Dakota senator doing? Is he going to be replace? If he is, that throws out the non-Republican majority in that house, anyway ...

Last I heard, he was conscious and responding, and I will continue to wish him well and pray that he gets better. As for his Senate seat, I heard nada.

Having said that . . .

This is where we start riting our Senators and congresspersons, and STRONGLY encouraging our anti-war friends to do the same.

Shit like this is why I do my best to block this stuff out.

I've gotten to the point (with my family, as well) that I just can't care much. The workings of Bush's mind boggle me more than anything else in this world. Some days I imagine this the hampster in his head has died and the spider webs are being built so stronly on the wheel that a new rodent won't help.

Also, don't you just love how the White House media is trying to get sympathy for Bush because of his wife's skin cancer? I'm not saying that cancer, of any kind, is anything to be blase about, but seriously; they are using it as a ploy and will do their best to use it for the war. This is gross and demeaning for those actually fighting the battles that our "commander-in-chief" was too pansy-assed to fight himself.

Shit like this is why I stick to fandom anymore. I used to chase politics so hard in my reading and watching, but it's like nobody ever learns from their mistakes - or other people's!

The White House media - do you mean Snow and that bunch? Or do you mean actual reporters and media?

Here, feel better (http://www.planetdan.net/pics/misc/georgie.htm)

By White House Media I mean the idiots that control what it sent out and those who do not question it, only print it. So, basically the media in general.

That link was fun and interesting! Thanks!
