As you can see, lack of self-esteem is not one of my myriad issues. :-P~

I've spent the last several weeks in 1-2 rehearsals a week (and 3 in the past week alone) to take part as one of the cast of the Front Page Follies here in town, which is basically the annual variety show that lampoons local politicians, celebrities, sports people, and other well-known people who made news in the past year. A few people write the script with a bunch of parody songs about local figures, and us volunteers (yes, we do it for FREE) have to endure the millstone of learning it all under a musical director. Now I can't carry a tune to save my life, but I do have a sense of timing and I can memorize LIEK WOAH, so I had great fun. The money raised by Follies - usually tens of thousands of dollars - goes for local university journalism scholarships.

There were about 25 of us this year, including the writers, director, cast, and prop mistresses. We practiced dances and skits in a cramped little room, not getting to use the stage until just yesterday for the first time. We kept running into issues in rehearsals, but when the show actually started last night, every number went smoothly. There were only a few people who forgot their short lines. And bad singing is expected, so I was in the clear!

I got to meet a lot of new people in my business and see some ones I already knew through the organization running the thing. What was probably the most surprising thing was that with all these people, nobody yelled at anyone else, nobody got their feelings hurt by anything, nobody was slighted, and nobody went on an ego trip. Of course, none of us are professional actors, so that might make a difference, LOL.

I did not directly, but we did have a skit based on the whole Katrina debaucle. It was set to the tune of "The Name Game" called "The Blame Game" and "Bush" would try to get the singers to blame Kathleen Blanco or FEMA or Ray Nagin. They would start out each stanza "FEMA, FEMA, FO FEMA ..." but when they got to the very final repeat of the name to blame, they'd all turn and point at him and yell "BUSH!" instead.

I forgot to mention, we used the Jedi robe, too. One guy was playing the local school superintendent as Dumbledore, and it was the closest thing any of us had to a wizard robe.

*reflects this is one of the few places where the $10 fedora came in handy, too*
