a glimpse into the pro-choice psyche
Nov. 8th, 2012 08:47 amPro-life friends and passersby ... Have you been genuinely confused as to why I and other pro-choice people think as we do, or seem disproportionately angry at least once in a while about the whole thing? It isn't because we're heartless, or promiscuous, or have sex on the brain 24/7 (unlike most of the people you're about to read if you click, on that last point). It's because there are people who, in 2012, still view women as baby vending machines who sully themselves by allowing in more than one sperm depositor (or rather, enjoying the quarter going in without wanting the sperm going with it).
This attitude is, sadly, not rare; it was depressingly common where and when I grew up (although thankfully, not in most of my family). Women are more than their reproductive systems; they're not slaves to those systems, or shouldn't be, at least; and they should be treated with at least as much autonomy as any man. Angry, frothing-at-the-mouth misogynists like this blogger need to be classified as "porn" so impressionable children can be filter-blocked from stumbling onto such nasty, destructive filth. I would rather catch my 11-year-old watching consensual sex acts than catch them nodding along to something like this.

The article ignores the fact that the freedom to "slut" has always been the prerogative of men.
He may have a point on the politics of dependence. If you keep your thralls in fear, convinced that unless they vote your way all their freedoms will be taken away and Jesus won't love them anymore, that's an awful lot of power.

Date: 2012-11-09 12:19 am (UTC)I don't think I've ever heard/read/seen anything so completely foreign to me before. My brain wants to think it's the result of a really long-standing Onion article/roleplay.

Date: 2012-11-09 01:34 pm (UTC)These people's concept of "choice" is just entirely absent. They don't realize that when they force people to take on an unwanted role, it devalues those who really want to do that thing.
