the Winchester mafia; and other bits
Sep. 19th, 2012 05:19 pmI'm too cheap to renew my extra userpics package today, so I don't have my Turner car icon to put with this post as I should. But to bring up to speed the unfamiliar among you - I own a black Chevy Impala. No, I didn't buy it because I'm a Supernatural fan - my sister's the fan - it was just the best used car for the price I could find in the make I liked. And no, it's far newer than a 1967 model, but it still has a respectable-sized trunk. (One of the stories knocking about SPN fandom is that Eric Kripke was going to use a Mustang for his show's car, but a friend suggested he go with an Impala because it had a big-ass trunk to hide bodies in.)
Anyway, I noticed this in my trunk some years ago - it's pretty much what it looks like, what you pull to escape from the trunk if you ever get locked in there. I don't know how common this is in cars, in general, but I think it's kind of humorous:

So I took a photo of it today because I also noticed for the first time, when I open the trunk from the front with the button, there's an orange "TRUNK OPEN" that flashes on my instrument panel. So it got me to thinking how counterproductive this would be for the poor demon or other baddie the Winchester brothers had stashed in the trunk (should they ever upgrade the year of their beloved car): Sure, there's an escape pull to get the hell out of the trunk, but what if Dean or Sam notices the orange warning light? They could throw on the brakes and get out and nab the refugee before it gets away! Or what if you're trying to escape the Mafia kidnapping you, and they notice the same way?

In other news ... allegedly, Chick-fil-A's charitable foundation has agreed to stop funding anti-gay causes and mandate fairer treatment of LGBT employees. This comes from a Chicago politician who opposed the restaurant in his city, so I'm still waiting to see if it's really true, but if so - good on you, Cathys. (If you're going to bitch about something someone is doing, it's fair to praise them for stopping doing the thing. Again, if it's true.)
My birthday isn't for a while yet, but Dad's card arrived in the mail today. Inside, he writes things like "Happy 40th" and "The Big 4-0" - and above the "Happy Birthday" of the card text itself, he felt compelled to add "40" again. As I told
dahlianna, I suppose he could've written 40 a few more times, but I don't see where.

Isn't that trunk thing funny? Handy ... but humorous in a "I can't believe that's on there" way.

Date: 2012-09-20 09:01 am (UTC)Happy Birthday. I have 7 years on you. I think you will like you 40's. You can start telling people what you think, and people respect the honesty.
