Bread and circuses
Jan. 20th, 2004 09:25 pmWhy are these otherwise mostly intelligent people applauding this idiot?
"The U.S. will never be intimidated by thugs and assassins." No - it'll just be governed by them, at least for the next 11 months.
If you can't figure it out, I'm referring to the State of the Union address as aired on Fox. My advice to you is that if you're a Bush supporter, I'm not going to tell you to log out now, but I may offend your sensibiities.
I'm not listening to much of the speech. I couldn't bear to do so. Much of it are delusional lies I've had to hear and read far too long already, and I'm insulted I would be considered simple enough to believe them. I possess only an average intelligence and a moderate amount of common sense, and I don't believe myself solely capable of running the nation. I do, however, consider myself more intelligent and informed of world history than Bush - and I don't believe he knows how to do the job, either. Further, I don't believe he's surrounded himself with people capable of doing their jobs - perhaps as far as his personal and business agenda is concerned, but certainly not from the standpoint of a public that needs to be served and protected.

Date: 2004-01-21 09:27 pm (UTC)I didn't catch the Republican dozing, but the Democrat you're referring to is Ted Kennedy. He's pretty much an abominable human being (he's been involved in so many sex-related scandals ...), but he's supposedly done quite a bit of good in office, especially with respect to working mothers and other women. Another Congressman I always liked was Rep. Byrd, who is old and uses his position to give big long speeches basically chiding the Republicans for most everything they do. I hope to be like that when I'm old. :-)
