Just fanning out to see if anyone has any solid, substantiated news about gasoline supplies to Tennessee and Kentucky (basically, Southern states) today and over the next few days. The last thing I've seen was in the Houston Chronicle, of all places, that two major pipelines were blocked off; I also heard anecdotally, this afternoon, in east Tennessee, that gas supplies are short, people are waiting in line at gas stations, and prices are up to $3 a gallon.

My sister is driving here tomorrow and I wanted to know what her driving problems might be. Thanks for any help at all, links, etc.

All pipelines are shutdown because their power supply is in the Gulf. I have that from the National Petroleum Marketers Association. I spent all day working on gasoline stories. ugh. Prices here are up to $3.29 and some stations are closing without supplies.

What do you hear about future gas prices (in the next 2-3 days) and supply in KY and TN, or have you heard anything?

No one is willing to speculate and I'm getting nothing beyond my area. Sorry I couldn't help more.

I personally think a lot of it is speculation and people will PANIC because of it, so if there becomes a shortage, it will be because of that panic, not because there is a definable shortage.

I am so angry right about this because Bush is doing NOTHING to help America. Releasing some reserves?? That's a token. What's going on now is nation wide price gouging - in some places here in Missouri and Illinois, gas prices jumped 3 times in one day, up +50 cents.

Bush needs to fucking take charge for once and calm people down. In times like this, that is what a president is for. If the supply is getting that low, he needs to tell people that only essential travel should be done this weekend. And they need to park their fucking ESSUVEEs.

Ten years for now, if America isn't a fucking waste land, people will look back on this administration and say it was the most ignorant group of people to ever run our country. Hell, it probably won't even take that long.

I read a couple of articles yesterday. One was from Air Force One flying over New Orleans, wherein Bush turned to someone seated next to him and made some comment about how bad it looked and it must be "doubly devastating" on the ground. (Yes, George - it IS only twice as bad down there in the muck, looting for food and toilet paper and worrying about disease from standing pools and sewers, as it is flying over in posh comfort.)

The other was something about how Air Force One was going to land, but didn't know where to put down. I say we send Shrub the way of Daddy and make him parachute out - right into the Superdome. I bet those folks would love to discuss Homeland Security with him (coming on the heels of yet a third story from satellite radio, about how money to shore up the levee in New Orleans was diverted instead to the Dept. of Homeland Security, aka Make-Believe Terrorist Playhouse).
