I'm tempted to do one of these for POTC ... any specific recommendations? (I have roles in mind. Notably, I believe Bloomsy could play Elizabeth Swann, in all seriousness.)

As for suggestions, I'm drawing a sudden blank but Emma Thompson should be in there as someone, because damn she's a good actress.
Maybe Djimon Hounsou as Tia Dalma but he's the only one who springs to mind.

Jack: Madonna (she's not a bad actress, she just picks bad projects, and she's definitely charismatic and flexible - you can't have just an actress for this role, you need a personality)

Will: Jessica Alba

Elizabeth: Orlando Bloom

Norrington: Kate Winslet

Barbossa: Meryl Streep

Gibbs: Kathy Najimy

Pintel and Ragetti: Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley (oh, come on! you know it)

Anamaria: Donald Faison

KATE WINSLET! Of course! That would be AWESOME. Also Meryl Streep! I really want this film now! Jeeze.

Not sure about Madonna, but mostly because she scares the shit out of me these days.

As much as I love Alba, I'd be tempted to go with Rachel McAdams over her, since RMA can actually act. That said, Alba does do a very very nice "stand there and look pretty." Oh Dark Angel, I do miss thee.

I had to look up Donald Faison, but I know who Turk is and also yes. "You stole my BOAT JD!"

OK, I've made a slight mental adjustment - I would be willing to recast the female Jack: Kim Cattrall. (Just watch "Sex and the City" and then turn over to "Star Trek 6" to see what I mean.)

I cannot condone this.

I hate Sex and the City and everyone in it and everything about it. It has come very close to spoiling Hocus Pocus for me because SJP is in it.

To be fair, I've never seen ST6 or seen anything else with Cattrall in it.

But SatC makes me so angry. Flames. On the side of my face

I love SatC - but as for range and quality of acting, you can't compare the two. I also like SJP in that role, but lumping Cattrall with her is like saying Patrick Stewart is condemned by being in the same movie as Halle Berry. :-P
