In the past 10 days, I've put in nearly 30 hours and 1,600 miles of driving, visiting family in the Midwest.

Here's a cheap thrill for some of you. You know who you are. ;-)

Okay. It's summer in the Midwest and the South. I GET that this is the best time of year for highway construction. But come on, on a Friday? And in 100-degree heat and nearly 100 percent humidity??

Of course not - there were very few workers actually out working today, but I swear every 50 miles from Mount Vernon southward, one lane of the interstate, every one I was on, was closed for a few miles, for damn near 400 miles. Grr. I mean, this is how most of my trip looked, it seems:

I go from Illinois into Kentucky, which isn't much better. I mean, was it really necessary from EVERYONE in the Bluegrass State to converge on the BP at Paducah at just the moment I was getting gasoline? Christ, I haven't seen a line for fuel like that since the 70s energy shortage. (There are 24 pumps, people! Hurry up and get off, dammit!!)

*whimper, fetal-curl*

I have seen more rude drivers today, or just plain STUPID drivers, than I normally do on a long drive home. I mean, Jesus pleaseus. I had two different assholes who thought it would be fun to race up beside me in the right lane (when I'm in the passing lane, waiting for someone to hurry up and damn well GO so I can pass them and the slow vehicle in the right lane in front of the person racing up beside me) and try to muscle in between me and the vehicle I'm following. One guy even tried it twice. Uh - NO. Wait your turn and quit trying to cause a wreck. You cause my death, I'll come back to haunt you, I swear to God, Allah, Zeus, and the whole gang.

If only the trip had been less populated, looked more like thus (crossing from Illinois into Kentucky):

Oh well. There'd be more photos, but I had to drive AND hold the camera. I think I scared some of the drivers around me. Something good DID come of the day after all. *snicker*

LOL @ the Elizabethtown pic.

There's a Mount Vernon down south?

Sure - in South Illinois. Don't think it's a very big city - I've only actually driven THROUGH it once, headed to Missouri from Kentucky last week (had to weave through KY near Owensboro for a story, back roads, UGH).

I love how deceptive that sign is. Sure, Etown's only 1 mile ahead - and then about 150 to your left.

But that middle picture is how English roads look on a good day! The only time they look like the last one is about 3 in the morning... Good to know you also have your fair share or arseholes with driving licenses too!

I'm such a geek for being impressed and gawking at this. Lol

As I said, yep, Etown was only a mile from where I was driving - and then about 150 to the left.

I love that photo from which your icon springs. It's nearly impossible to find men who are actually made *prettier* by facial hair, but he and Johnny somehow manage it.
