It's all [livejournal.com profile] mamazano's fault. She's the one who showed me Wordplayer threads (Ted and Terry's website and message forum for their movies).

I have concluded - not for the first time, really - that my gender, on the whole, is nuttier than a box of Cracker Jacks. Seriously, you put a bunch of women in a room together, they WILL find something to squabble and bitch about, whether it's relationships, being wrong/right about something, feminism, yadda yadda yadda.

And as for the sparrabethers? Holy crap. There's more bats in those belfries than in an entire cave full of guano. It's NOT just LJ (in fact, some of the old messages reflect minds more disturbed than I've run into on LiveJournal, if you can believe it).

/hugs Will Turner harder so as not to lose too much sanity

(To be fair, there's mental disturbance everywhere - a group of 500 fans petitioned T&T to "free Will" on the DVD version of AWE. I am not making this up. It's just that I saw more of this brainfruitery out of the anti-Will crowd than fans.)

Trust me, they were. I was involved with WordPlay long before I joined LJ, and been through the worse shipping wars I have ever seen. Let's just say I didn't come to LJ with a very positive view towards them.

All the messages there are archived and searchable. Just find the movie board of you choosing and type in a keyword. Sparrabeth is a good one.

And people wonder why I came into LJ with an attitude! After two years of that stuff, I was hoping it was a isolated incident. Joy of joy, I found about the same here, except instead of jumping up and down and ranting at the writers, on LJ they just rewrote the story to suit their purposes, then dared anyone to disagree.

It's disheartening, to see the characters I love treated so shabbily.

Amen. :P

I agree, the decency factor has a lot to do with whether a group is tolerable or not. I tend to be very much an isolationist, so for me to participate in group activities is painful enough, without having one or two individuals ruining the whole thing.

I'll be over in my corner if you need me.
