beldar and veronica_rich, I join my fellow captain in calling a muster of all American hands who wish to do so, to contribute to the USO and its efforts to support our troops, in lieu of gifts. You can learn more at Cap'n beldar's post here. I believe there is a $5 minimum online donation.
He has set a goal of $430 because of his age. I'll be brutally honest that while I would love to set a goal of $360 for my part, if people only got together and gave $50, there's no way I could cover the other $310. I will, instead, ask you to give what you can - and if you'd like to leave a comment here about how much you gave, that would be greatly appreciated. I have made a $25 donation for a care package - there is the option to give down to $5 to help with one, as well.
I wish to be clear: I do not agree with this war. I do not support the administration that instigated it. But our military has been deployed, and it is not their fault, and they do deserve the basics and at least a few comforts while stuck there for a year ... 18 months ... two years ... or more, each.
