Well, a fellow claiming to be in charge of the site where [livejournal.com profile] mamazano's pirated fanfic was posted to much accolade (not to her, of course) is basically saying he doesn't care if that happens on his site. You might want to check it out for yourself, Age of Sail fans. If this is true, it's a rather serious breach of mod protocol.

You might also want to stay away from the website. I would not want to put my ideas into a forum where management has made it clear it's perfectly OK to lift other people's ideas without giving them so much as a nod of thanks or ownership. And if you're already a member, you might wish to think twice about what you've handed them so far ... lest it turn up in a published story or book someday almost word for word. You can guess that you likely won't be paid or at least receive a "thank you" for it.

Wow, that's a horrible mod! And a total asshole, if we're talking personalities.

As a mod, you're really not suspposed to go around talking smack about your community or its business just anywhere. It's better to handle it THERE so you don't have to defend yourself everywhere else - or if you have to, at least you have a leg to stand on.

I have had several friends on LJ be victims of plagiarism and I am always shocked at how cavalier people are about it generally. To ME, it is one of the most cardinal sins, and yet many people (this mod seems to be of that sort of trollish type) just brush it off. What's the big deal? I find this completely unacceptable on so many levels. For him to hide behind the fact it's not a legal issue, nicely side-stepping the ethical issues. He is a total jerk.

May I humbly suggest screen capping?

Geez, what a prick. This sort of thing makes me really nervous about posting any of my work. Anyone who writes, even just dabbling, is influenced by other works and authors that they read, that's inevitable, but damn.

This sort of thing really PISSES ME OFF!
I'm a published author, I put my heart and soul into the things I write, I know that there is a chance of being plagarised, but my publishing company has a clause in their contract where it states that they will take anyone to court if they ever find my content plagarised.

It all comes down to the movie, Secret Window, Mort had to deal with Plagarism, even if it was in his own head...but the point is, it only matters WHEN the words were written. and today, police confiscate computers to see when a specific website was pulled up from that particular computer. YOu can do lots of things with computers. So, Mam wrote it first, did anyone not THINK to do a search of the fic title to find anything else that MIGHT have that same title?

Gosh, some stupid people populate the world, and you can't fix stupid!
(That last is from Ron White, for those of you who watch the Redneck comedy stuff)

Well, it isn't cool, that's for sure. It's one thing to be inspired by someone - that happens all the time - but lifting word for word is a special kind of theft. It says "I really like this - but instead of telling the writer, I'll just make people think I wrote it and the writer can go to hell."

I am inspired by Johnny Depp everyday. I have a character based off of him, but I did make the character different. I don't think people would noticed unless they were a huge JD fan or if I told them straight out. And, in my acknowledgement page I even thanked Him! so, if you give credit where credit is due, things are fine.

BUt plagarising has always been an unwritten rule in writting, I really just hate it when people do this sort of shit!
