Somewhere at one time, someone made the observation that LiveJournal is for ranting and posting pictures of cats. You've had my ranting; here's my cats.

This is Sylvester. I've had him since he was born in March 1997. His mother was a neighborhood stray who had five kittens - she was feral, but because the kittens were nearby and I fed her (and then them for a while), they were not. She carried them off somewhere when they were about 3 months old, I didn't see any for several weeks, and then one day Sylvester came back by himself and has been with me ever since, through three states and many jobs.

This is Frank, the new boy - the vet estimates he's about two years old. I'd been debating for a year or so whether I should get another cat to keep Sylvester company and if I wanted to adopt another anyway, and about two and a half months ago, this guy showed up at my back patio. He was always hungry, but scared of me. After a while he let me pet him and he started coming inside. Once I'd had him inside for a couple of weeks, I got him neutered and shots, and ever since the big problem has been him and Sylvester fighting. They seem to be getting a little better about it, but I think it'll be a long while before Sylvester calms down and accepts him, and Frank stops challenging "the old man" for his position of alpha cat.
Any of yours to share? I like cat photos. it's one of the few nonpartisan uses of LJ. *G*

Date: 2008-07-03 01:39 am (UTC)I did have a cat once, for a short while. Bob, the Manx that showed up in my yard and adopted me. I had him neutered and de-wormed, de-fleaed and de-mited, and then found out my husband was allergic to him.
Yours are quite the cat's meow...

Date: 2008-07-03 02:03 am (UTC)Poor Bob. Oh well, he had the full workup anyway - good for him!

Date: 2008-07-03 02:10 am (UTC)I gave him to a woman I worked with. She and her husband got a divorce. Did they fight over custody of their kid? Noooo, they fought over custody of Bob!
He was one cool cat.
And yes, I have pooch pics, will post them on my journal page.

Date: 2008-07-03 01:51 am (UTC)The cutest thing this week so far: Sylvester's one tiny white toe on his black paw. Awww <3
Kitty pic-spam you say? Fine, then...

Date: 2008-07-03 02:01 am (UTC)Syl is a pattern 1 tuxedo - there's a range of 0-10 (0 being almost totally black, 10 being almost totally white). He has the paws, the tail tip, and the throat. He's always dressed for a party.
Oooh, kitties?

Date: 2008-07-03 07:49 am (UTC)I like that you adopted them as strays, I think that's the best way. Three of our cats are strays (one was dumped at the end of our driveway in the middle of the night by some evil bastard, but she was loud enough to wake me up and I rescued her).
And my newest baby is in my icon, his name's Jack or 'Flopsy' as he is now known due to his floppy right ear.

Date: 2008-07-05 05:52 pm (UTC)There are so many strays that need a loving home. I'm not saying pet stores should close down, just that I wish people who bought those would also take in at least one stray.

Date: 2008-07-05 09:17 pm (UTC)I need a better pic of Fruitcake. She's mostly tabby, but with sudden outbreaks of ginger. She doesn't meow properly: she squeaks. But she has great purr.

Date: 2008-07-06 11:56 pm (UTC)I have one cat right now, a tiny little black and tan calico female we call Dusty. She was the young one out of two, the oldest being a Main Coon mix. He passed about two months ago now.
Dusty now spends her time being chased by the three Bassets, lol. But she holds her own. :P

Date: 2008-07-07 12:21 am (UTC)When Cosmic was alive, the dogs wouldn't go near him, lol. If he was on the stairs, they would bark and complain, but wouldn't go up. :P
