And, cats

Somewhere at one time, someone made the observation that LiveJournal is for ranting and posting pictures of cats. You've had my ranting; here's my cats.

Photobucket

This is Sylvester. I've had him since he was born in March 1997. His mother was a neighborhood stray who had five kittens - she was feral, but because the kittens were nearby and I fed her (and then them for a while), they were not. She carried them off somewhere when they were about 3 months old, I didn't see any for several weeks, and then one day Sylvester came back by himself and has been with me ever since, through three states and many jobs.

Photobucket

This is Frank, the new boy - the vet estimates he's about two years old. I'd been debating for a year or so whether I should get another cat to keep Sylvester company and if I wanted to adopt another anyway, and about two and a half months ago, this guy showed up at my back patio. He was always hungry, but scared of me. After a while he let me pet him and he started coming inside. Once I'd had him inside for a couple of weeks, I got him neutered and shots, and ever since the big problem has been him and Sylvester fighting. They seem to be getting a little better about it, but I think it'll be a long while before Sylvester calms down and accepts him, and Frank stops challenging "the old man" for his position of alpha cat.

Any of yours to share? I like cat photos. it's one of the few nonpartisan uses of LJ. *G*

Hey kitties! I love Sylvester's widdle shoes, and Frank has some beautiful eyes!

(Did my massive kittypicspam of yesterday inspire this? Regardless, I'm happy to see it, I'm such a sucker for kitty pics! Everybody should post theirs!)

They both are adorable! I love looking at kitties. Frank really does remind me of the Muncher.

As for posting of Munchkin pictures, you've seen so many.

Oh shucks, I have dogs. Does that make me friend or foe?

I did have a cat once, for a short while. Bob, the Manx that showed up in my yard and adopted me. I had him neutered and de-wormed, de-fleaed and de-mited, and then found out my husband was allergic to him.

Yours are quite the cat's meow...

Well, we'll let you stick around IF you have pictures of the dogs.

Poor Bob. Oh well, he had the full workup anyway - good for him!

Poor Bob my foot!

I gave him to a woman I worked with. She and her husband got a divorce. Did they fight over custody of their kid? Noooo, they fought over custody of Bob!

He was one cool cat.

And yes, I have pooch pics, will post them on my journal page.

That just means they have their priorities in order. :-)

Frank looks like a tough guy :)

The cutest thing this week so far: Sylvester's one tiny white toe on his black paw. Awww <3

Kitty pic-spam you say? Fine, then...

Yeah, Frank's a real goodfella. If he were human, he'd have no neck but be a softie for small children. *G*

Syl is a pattern 1 tuxedo - there's a range of 0-10 (0 being almost totally black, 10 being almost totally white). He has the paws, the tail tip, and the throat. He's always dressed for a party.

Oooh, kitties?

Kitties and the obligatory stray dog there somewhere, yes.

One of the cats I used to have had that throat patch and the rest was black. For a reason or another his nickname was "The Priest", dunno why though :P

Cute cats. I have a cat and a dog- you get to see pictures of them both.

And your ranting is generally fun, or at least interesting.

I looked! Cute.

My ranting is obnoxious and disgruntled. But, that's what ranting is, so I guess I'll keep it. LOL

Yeah, I'd say that pretty well describes him. And Sylvester is old and cranky.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWwww They're adorable. Frank owns that chair, right? 'Cause he looks like he does. :)

Frank owns the chair when Sylvester's not in it first. And very tentatively when Sylvester stands under it and glares balefully up at him.

I have noticed there are a lot of cat pic posts on my flist :P

I like that you adopted them as strays, I think that's the best way. Three of our cats are strays (one was dumped at the end of our driveway in the middle of the night by some evil bastard, but she was loud enough to wake me up and I rescued her).

And my newest baby is in my icon, his name's Jack or 'Flopsy' as he is now known due to his floppy right ear.

I think a couple of those cat posts may be my fault. ;-)

There are so many strays that need a loving home. I'm not saying pet stores should close down, just that I wish people who bought those would also take in at least one stray.

The white one reminds me of Evita and I would call the tabby one Chairman Meow. (Do not ask me how I come up with this stuff. It just pops in my head.)

Zil = Evita...mmmm. Personality-wise, I think you have a point.

I need a better pic of Fruitcake. She's mostly tabby, but with sudden outbreaks of ginger. She doesn't meow properly: she squeaks. But she has great purr.

Aww! Cute. :)

I have one cat right now, a tiny little black and tan calico female we call Dusty. She was the young one out of two, the oldest being a Main Coon mix. He passed about two months ago now.

Dusty now spends her time being chased by the three Bassets, lol. But she holds her own. :P

For their size, kittens are remarkably good at getting their bluff in with much larger animals. I don't know if it's because other animals know somehow that a cat is a carnivore, or have had experience with enough adult cats that they back off, or what. Maybe it's just attitude!

She's definately got the attitude, lol. She's a mouthy little spitfire. :P

When Cosmic was alive, the dogs wouldn't go near him, lol. If he was on the stairs, they would bark and complain, but wouldn't go up. :P
