Summary: Written for the prompt, Fire, at
raise_the_dead, about Andrew Gillette.
Born with a mess of red hair and an indignant squall – at least according to the story his nanny liked to put him to bed with at the end of days when he’d gotten into some fresh trouble – Andrew Gillette had been identified early with fire itself.
As the third of four sons and two daughters, he would have some liberty choosing a non-landed path. In a particularly bad fight one day over yet another harsh insult to his ginger-flame locks, he was pulled off two larger boys by a passing Navyman; only later did Drew learn the gentleman was a high-ranking officer, partially identified by the snug snow-white wig.
From that day, he knew he wanted the military. He could drive lowlifes off the seas, be a hero to innocents crossing the water, and fulfill his own personal honor.
But more than any of that, he coveted the wig.

Cute take on his motivation to be Navy!
