Here's a tip to all you youngsters reading this (and oldsters who think "young at heart" means disturbing the shit out of your neighbors at all hours): If you live in close, communal housing like an apartment complex or two feet away from the house next door like in a large city, and you have a band, DON'T WAIT UNTIL MOTHERFUCKING MIDNIGHT TO START YOUR JAM SESSIONS.

I just had to call the apartment manager's office and leave a voicemail at 12:35 a.m. finally reporting our next-door neighbor, who I think is about 14 years old (I'm pretty sure either Mommy and Daddy pay his rent or he has a drug deal going on), for noise disturbance. I went over twice in April to get them to shut the fuck up and ran into this Eddie Haskell-type "yes ma'am" bullshit that I'm sure they thought fooled me. (The second time was for them going out on their back patio to play bongos. At midnight. ON A GODDAMNED TUESDAY NIGHT. And they said they didn't think they'd disturb anyone. Fuck you, you uncivilized, insincere little shits.)

I had said something to the apartment manager in passing in early May, but assured her I wanted to try to resolve it myself before dragging them into it, like an adult. Well, to hell with that. It's their property, let them try to make it stop. I told them on my voicemail I wanted to turn it over to them before calling the cops on a noise disturbance. I don't like bothering the cops unless it's an emergency generally, but these are the types of spoiled little shits who may need a point made at them at some point. UGH.

This is not the first time I've dealt with this kind of neighbor in 19 years of renting, and I'm getting fucking sick of it. I do not want to buy a house; I like the services that come with renting a place and being free and clear of maintenance, responsibility, and huge hikes in taxes from one year to the next. I'm tired of people who move into a complex like this who are pubescent and apparently think everybody has awesome parties until 4 a.m. (the latest I've clocked them is almost 3 a.m. - it was a weekend, but still). My sister and I are tolerant, I think - we don't beat on the wall or complain on weekend nights, and we don't do it before about 12:10 a.m. on weeknights. Our philosophy is, you wanna have fun, fine, but do it at reasonable hours. If you want to make noise at UNreasonable hours, move back into the dorm or find an actual garage for your shitty garage band.

Little assholes.
