some hard life truths
May. 7th, 2010 04:00 pm1. If you're not on an IV, the insurance company will order you OUT of the hospital immediately. My nurse last night removed the IV because my hand was puffy and she didn't like the way the needle had bent in my hand (was just for antibiotics at that point), and when she reported in to the doctor, he told her either I had to have an IV or I had to go home, according to insurance. So I came home.
2. Getting around the house with a row of staples from your navel down to your pubic bone isn't easy, even if it IS necessary. (Neither is deep breathing, which also is, to clear phlegm out of your lungs from the breathing tube. Neither is trying to move things along out of your intestines while on pain pills, which is all I'll say about THAT unpleasantness.)
2a. However, sleep is good. So is reading good Lister/Rimmer fanfic. MMMM.
3. Watching the channel your sister left on when she runs to the store for you is hard, when you can't/don't want to reach for the remote, when it's "Tyra" and the topic is teens who deliberately get pregnant. HOW FUCKING STUPID DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO GET DELIBERATELY KNOCKED UP OR TO KNOCK UP SOMEONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18? (I would say 25, but there are people who are legally adults and deliberately do this between 18-25.) Oh, and I love how these girls are all dressed like little girls - ribbons in their hair, demure clothes and hairstyles, etc. Sorry, it doesn't rattle my sympathy cage - if any were my daughter, we'd be at the clinic tomorrow.
3a. If you impregnate a 13-year-old girl, I don't care if she was naked lapdancing on you, YOU NEED TO BE SHOT IN THE FUCKING FOREHEAD. I DON'T CARE IF YOU ARE 13, TOO.
3b. However, I will say I am simultaneously LMFAO and horrified at the way some of these girls are "oh, I'm just going to give it up for adoption anyway!" THIS IS YOUR FAULT, ANTI-CHOICE MOVEMENT, as well as YOU ANTI-EDUCATION PALIN WANNABES. That's right - YOU have enabled this throwaway mentality that says if you get pregnant, it's BETTER to hand off the resulting human being to rank strangers to raise/abuse/misuse/whatever him or her, with society's permission, than to take responsibility for getting an abortion and dealing with the emotional aftermath of it. Ditto to the people who say "if we don't teach them about how to get pregnant, it magically won't happen!" All this "ZOMG FETUSES ARE PRECIOUS CANNOT BE TERMINATED OR PREVENTED OR YOU ARE AN EVIL HELLBOUND BITCH" is well and good to shame girls and women who accidentally get pregnant into foregoing an abortion and bearing a financial and emotional burden they can't handle for 20+ years (/sarcasm), but you didn't count on it giving a loophole to the dumbasses who just want to know what it's like to be pregnant or rebel against Mommy and Daddy, did you? It's one thing to have adoptive parents lined up that you know, who will welcome a baby; somehow, I don't think that's the case with these poor, sad, stupid children. Or their idiot parents.
3b1. I know some anti-choicers mean well. But you too have to consider the sideline ramifications of what you espouse - just like we pro-choicers have to accept there are girls and women who will abuse the right of choice to seek multiple abortions as birth control. I still argue to keep them legal; it's not my business what someone does with her own body, and someone who REALLY wants an abortion is going to get one, legal or not. It's better that it's safe and clean than dangerous and dirty.
