But it strikes me that dogpiling on the Illinois governor's nutty (allegedly, still) illegal behavior reeks a bit of punishing the kid at the front of the store for stealing Chiclets while the other thieves are allowed to cart TVs and computers out the back door.
Or, as Rachel Maddow put it on MSNBC (and thank heavens someone finally said what I've been thinking), it's notable to compare what's happened the last two days with the fact that "the giant swindle" of the Iraq War is still "an applause line" for the Bush administration.
In short: It's not that stealing Chiclets isn't wrong or shouldn't be punished. It's that grand theft and murder deserves a little worse - or hell, at least SOMETHING.
(This is all to distract me from wanting to slap Republican senators over the auto loan bill, especially the one quoted on NPR this evening talking about how labor unions are basically unnecessary. HOLY POOR UNDERSTANDING OF HISTORY, BATMAN.)
