brain drop
Jan. 24th, 2008 09:23 amI have now lived here several months and it's difficult to meet new people, so while I have a few friends, they're pretty much all about 40-50 miles away. (I shall briefly explain: I am single and have no children, so at my age it's difficult to meet people just to make friends, who aren't hooked up with someone or childless. This wouldn't be so difficult except that I live in a very small town about 50 miles from a much bigger city, and with gas at over $3 a gallon (not to mention it snowing every other day), I can't just zip off anytime I like.)
Anyway, where I used to live, I'd go out for dinner once every week or two with friends. Can't really do that here. So I finally found a time when I could drive and have dinner with
the_dark_snack and
beldar last night near their home. I had not seen them since New Year's and it was good to have company, even if I do generally like living by myself.
Am trying to figure out several things for the year that are distracting me from work. Namely: I have to buy a car - mine just isn't going to last a whole lot longer - and while I know I want a V-6 domestic non-Ford model, I haven't figured out just what I want and can afford yet (I have a real preference for GM and Chevy, but I can get a special deal through Chrysler); setting up a few days for a fannish get-together for one of my communities sometime later this year, deciding when and in what city to do it; actual work, and things I need to write about this year; and whether I want to try to get back into paid freelancing in addition the job, or make a real stab at writing the book I keep thinking about to *maybe* sell (the freelancing would be simpler; I know how to do that).
