On "60 Minutes," Andy Rooney used to have this segment (he may well still) where he'd talk about things that caught his attention, leading off with that nasally, "You ever notice ...?" I'm not going to say that, it's just in the back of my head with things like this, especially the nasal tone. *G*

1. The classic question has come up again of "what is a Mary Sue?" at [livejournal.com profile] pirategasm. It seems since Elizabeth was turned into the biggest Sue in any fandom by AWE - and happens to be canon - it's harder to ask writers to not give us someone so universally loved and idealized and perfect. (Which begs the question: Why was Wesley Crusher so vehemently hated 20 years ago for exhibiting the same traits Elizabeth Swann is so beloved for now? He had an actual reason for knowing so much about starships, having been raised in Starfleet and possessing a genius-level IQ.)

1b. Then again, I do feel good that NOBODY can call Will Turner a Gary Stu, since he is far from universally loved. *cuddles beloved fictional character*

2. Why is it we're being shown relative crap in movie theaters, when for an extra 30 minutes or so, we could get a *better* movie? Note I do not say "the best" movie. "Kingdom of Heaven" wasn't bad, but the director cut was SO much better, not to mention that it made sense. The theatrical version of "Troy" was close to atrocious; the director's cut, while no "Ben-Hur," is quite a bit better. I've also heard from people who saw the longer-cut "Elizabethtown" at Toronto that it was better than the theatrical cut. Surely this isn't happening just with Orlando Bloom movies - and if not, what the heck? I'd sit a little longer for a decent film.

3. "Scrubs" is the best show EVER. JD being carted off to Vegas by a bunch of gay men to get married to one? ROFL ....
