Threesomes
Aug. 5th, 2007 03:16 pmIn fic, there are certain situations in wihch I can read a threesome (hell, I've even written a couple). There are writers on my f-list from whom I look forward to new fic, who happen to write threesomes (a couple of series I can name off the top of my head that I enjoy). I respect people who want to be in poly relationships, and I think they can work for individual people who like them and can work within that dynamic.
But, I generally like the monogamous in my "romance" reading - and yes, I'll even make Jack monogamous when I write, because that's what I want. (I realize the canon character would NOT be like that, just like canon Will would NOT sleep with a man.) The threesome I've written was Jack/Will/Tia Dalma, and it worked for me because Tia didn't want to be part of the emotionally permanent show. She was a facilitator who was fascinated with Will and quite hot on him. (I once made the argument somewhere that I like J/W/E but not J/E/W because I've never seen Elizabeth as the "hinge" in that relationship - I could see Jack and Lizzie fighting over Will sooner than I could see the boys vying for her. It's just who I am. *G*)
As for what prompted this, I'm rewatching first-season "Sex and the City" with the episode about threesomes, and I have to agree with Carrie - "In a city filled with options, sometimes, the nicest thing is knowing you have only one." *G*
