songs for the people
Aug. 4th, 2007 01:07 amI'm not much one for either reading or writing poetry. But I do love me some songs.
( Fancy )
I love stories. Any song I can envision writing a story around, I'll wear the hell out of it. Grandma taught me to read by the time I was three, and when I wasn't much older, I remember asking Mom what was so special about a song she liked, "Copacabana" - she explained it told a story, like all songs did, and that was the first time anyone had ever pointed that out to me.
( Copacabana )
In the vein of telling a story, Eddie Money's "Take Me Home Tonight" is in my top ten just because it led to one of the few original fics that actually got published. Put it on the player, roll the windows down, drive around for an hour (back when gas prices allowed it), and see what you come up with:
( Take Me Home Tonight )
The few times I've watched American Idol, I've so far managed to miss anyone mangling Stevie Nicks. She's one of those few artists whose work can't be duplicated unless the person's voice is EXACTLY like hers. Many is the time I've listened to "Edge of Seventeen" in the past three years and thought of CotBP-era Turrow. Like "Take Me Home Tonight," it's a simple song with relatively few lyrics, repeated - it's more the *way* it's sung, and the music and beat:
( Edge of Seventeen )
(In non-related news: Some Target stores have in their $1 Spot some POTC items - I picked up today magnetic notepads and post-its with Jack and Will, and there are both CotBP J and W notebooks and AWE ones (the newer ones are in the special school supplies section). For my Sparrabeth readers, the toy section also had the 11-inch Jack and Elizabeth doll pair marked down from $40 to only $10, in case you have cash burning a hole!)

paper_clip's journal and had to laugh when I read it. I can name at least one of my correspondents who thinks I AM that jealous wannabe hellbent on changing everything of hers at work. LOLOL ...
