Do we really need a rehash of the "No, I'm not a racist pigfucker, thanks for asking" post?

No, I'm not having a problem with the same person. That little squawk was chickenfeed compared to this. Some poor schmuck who probably had something valuable to say in the midst of what sounded like an extremely racist rant on one of my communities posted about noticing misbehaving Mexican kids. (Yes, I know the term is Hispanic. I didn't make the post.) Anyway, the OP - who has probably since gone into hiding with Mel Gibson - gets all manner of people jumping her ass for having such a tone. Fair enough. As I said, there was probably something lucid in there about bratty kids, but it's hard to find when you're wincing through reading the glaring racial bent of the post.

A commenter paraphrased the question: Why don't Americans seem as concerned about abused Mexican immigrant women as they are about other abused women in this country? I made some smart-aleck response about how anyone interfering with such a thing would probably be accused of treading on a minority culture's customs. (The response was smart-aleck, not the thought behind it - and what happened next just proved my serious point.) I further added it's pefectly OK to invade a foreign country and impose one's mores, but don't lay your hands on an abusive brown man, or there'll be hell to pay! And THEN (cover your eyes, children) I added I would be perfectly happy to see a group of NOW-led women tossing a Mexican wife-beater into the Gulf. And I would. I've lived in the middle of abuse - it was white folk, and it was just as disgusting as any brown or black or yellow man beating the shit out of a woman. There ain't NONE of those guys deserves to be handled sensitively.

(Now, there are abusive women, too, and they are repulsive. They're just not reported in as high numbers, and frankly, I doubt it happens as much as male-to-female abuse.)

Show of hands - who can paraphrase the point of the argument of the "culturally enlightened" squirrel-cuddler who jumped in to defend the honor of fucking lowlife abusers everywhere? (Well, no, that's not true - only the brown ones. The white ones are still scum.)

Are there any minority (by U.S. standards) readers here? Do you regard the beating of women of your ethnicity by men of your ethnicity - or vice versa - as something you want your culture to be known for? And yes, I know of what I speak - I grew up in Redneck Country. I know what an asshole looks like, and I can spot one of any color, by damn.

EDIT: I attempted to reopen a dialogue with said squirrel-cuddler (I'm only using that to identify the one I was ranting about last night). I'm still anti-racist, and I don't believe my remarks reflect a contrary attitude, but it doesn't kill anyone to occasionally reexamine their beliefs or communication style. *shrug*
