Moving stuff

Okay, this is where ye olde f-list is supposed to come in handy. Has anyone in the continental U.S. ever moved using a service (such as, two guys show up with a truck, load the stuff, drive it there, and unload) rather than loading and unloading into a rented truck themselves? If so, what is the best service for doing so, what are common problems with it, hidden costs, etc.? My apartment is less than 1,000 square feet, normally furnished - can anyone tell me about how much that should cost, ballpark?
