Writer's Block: Gadget Conundrum

[Error: unknown template qotd]

If you're my sister and her friend off to England this fall, apparently you don't have a chance to miss any, because you don't leave ANY of them behind. Heavy luggage, girls. ;-)

Can I pretend I have an iPhone and say I'm taking that? It has phone, interwebs, music, etc . . .

[identity profile] yoiebear.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Am I not your friend, too? Who the hell introduced me and your sister? LOL

As for gadgets, I am taking the netbook (your sister can use it instead of lugging her laptop across the Pond), camera (considering two if I can get Nikon to fix the damn D90) and cell phone. The phone will be for quick and random calls (to people to let them know I'm there safe and birthdays) and photos where I don't feel like lugging out the camera, which won't be often.

Hey! Gadget-wise, I'm only taking my phone, camera, and zune. I could probably fit all three in a coat pocket together. LOL

Not in a peacoat pocket, most likely ...

I say netbook/laptop because I can do everything but take tourist pictures with it - watch movies, listen to music, email, skype.

I suppose there are phones that surf, email, take photos, play music etc and which are lighter, but I can't help imagining the eyestrain of watching a movie the size of a credit card and reading emails with letters the size of a pinhead.

[identity profile] yoiebear.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, it's not just the eyestrain that is keeping me from relying mostly on my iPhone, but the horrible international charges. Unless I pay an extra $8 international roaming thing for the month in which I will be gone (a week), then the roaming will be $3 per minute. If I pay the fee (I plan to), then the roaming charges are dropped down to $1 per minute. Also, there is a much higher fee for international data.
I figured that buying the netbook and taking it with me for internet would likely be cheaper than using my iPhone for the tech crap.

Netbook! I wouldn't even really miss any of the others. Meh, maybe my MP3 I'd miss a bit. Phone? Screw it!

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, my phone I NEED. Since it has a data plan, I might be OK with it. (But the laptop! How would I write??)

And why, pray tell, are you not coming with? *le sigh*

She might have to leave the word 'Fall' at customs - they give you the word 'Autumn' in its place. But fret not - when you return to the US they reunite you with your quirky American terms ^__^

Veronica is poor this year, alas. Hopefully 2011 or 2012 will be better for me (I'm actually hoping for a Dimension Jump 2012 that I could attend). However, as an RD fan and a member of RDSlash - for longer than me, in fact - my sister is allowed to Represent in my stead. If you stand at Heathrow with a big placard that reads "SMEG HEAD" you might actually get her attention. ;-)

*salutes* Who is she? Would I recognise her author name?

Heh. I was planning on doing that when I meet up with another slasher later this year...

[livejournal.com profile] dahlianna doesn't write any RD (though she likes reading them), but she has written a few SPN slash stories. And she IS a smeghead. You can tell her I said that. >:-)

[identity profile] missflibble.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
If I bump into her in London, I'll be sure to tell her she's a smeghead... ;-)

The only place I know for a *fact* they're going to be is at the Jane Austen Festival in Bath at some point. So, yay - specificity! LOL

What a silly question, though; like any self-respecting net surfing person (read: addict like me *g*) would leave home without all of those! Alright, so possibly minus one or two if the appliances had multiple uses (I listen to mp3 on my phone, for example).
