I am well over the annoyances/anger I used to feel reading a lot of J/E stories in the POTC fandom. A lot of my response was snap-anger at fics/meta that didn't deserve it, simply because I'd read one or two things that day that were poorly written. However, I do have at least one lingering prejudice regarding that pairing: If you write J/E and paint Will as some sort of cad because he abandoned Elizabeth to captain the Dutchman, I'm going to assume you were either drinking heavily through AWE or had your head stuffed up your ass and couldn't properly see the screen. Making Jack out to be her ideal guy simply because he's able to walk on land, and Will the questionable one for having the audacity to get stabbed protecting his wife and being sentenced to the Dutchman and the sea (a decision Jack made for him, ironically), is just bad writing. (I believe it also shows the J/E pairing doesn't "speak" that loudly to you after all, and you're just after The Formula of Hot Lead Dude with Hot Lead Babe. Which, I suppose is a valid basis for writing for fun. *G*)

Also, I read somewhere Disney is allegedly (heavy on the questionability here) scheduling the release of POTC4 sometime in 2011. How the heck is that going to happen if they're not even filming yet? /headscratch

Also, on the new Holmes fandom: If you've only seen the movie and know nothing of the books, and you're bitching that Adler/Holmes is being shafted in favor of Holmes/Watson in the fandom? Shut up. GO READ, CRETIN. I'm all for GRRRRRL POWER and I loved the movie - but I also read all of Doyle's canon in my early 20s and the differences between that and this incarnation of Holmes are crystal clear. The original Holmes not only had nothing going on with Irene, it's pretty clear throughout the stories that he didn't really like women. (Hell, even Carole Nelson Douglas knew this, and she managed to get several books out of Irene NOT getting together with Holmes. Unless she's broken her formula in the latter novels ...)

(Don't lean too close to read this. I have germs and general nastiness in my lungs right now. *sniffle*)

Yeah, 'cause I know where you hang out too! *G*

(I have been home sick most of the week with the crud, which is why you've gotten nothing on hotels from me. I need to submit my expense request next week sometime so I will definitely be asking you about a few before then.)

Yeah, it's kinda fun there.

(That's fine. I'm planning on heading out that way on Sunday, before my annual pass expires. If you can get it to me before then, I can check the hotels then.)

Ugh, I hate when people bash characters just because they need to justify why the pairing with them and one of the characters doesn't "work." So bullshit. Just like you said, it can't speak that loudly if you've gotta change entire personalities and backstories to make shit work haha

Also, the Holmes thing--which I didn't catch but wish I did because I bet it was LULzy--is bullshit. I have barely read the books, but even I know that Holmes/Watson is way more supported in pretty much all canon. Hell, probably even those books where Watson's related to Dracula. Irene is not Holmes' long lost love in any media--hell, except for that odd moment with the picture (and I wouldn't put it past that Holmes to keep it around to fuck with Adler's head), it really seemed more like a fascination/sexual attraction than any emotional response (otherwise he would've probably been tempted to run off with her, no? who wouldn't want to spend the rest of their lives seeing the world with their soulmate? ...maybe someone that's off solving mysteries with his real soulmate? lol).

IDK, I'm a Poirot fan, I don't have to deal with this shit--his long lost love is lost to him, thankfully haha

I don't know Poirot, but I do know Holmes, and you're correct - he was fascinated with the fact she defeated him, not just because she did it but because she was a woman to boot. (I do love canon Holmes, but his attitude toward females is atrocious.)

...

AHAHAHAHAAHAHA!

Because Irene's Holmes' twu wuvvie, eh? Yeah, we all know that he's a womanizer; not one story without romance and... oh, oops. WRONG BOOK.

Nothing and nobody will ever make me watch that movie, and I'll keep far away from the fandom. Holmes is serious business, yo.

Hey, I'm staying out of the fandom, but I did enjoy the movie. Of course, as you're watching, you have to simply accept you're watching a Guy Ritchie action film and try not to think about it being Holmes too hard. *G*

Um, I know my slash goggles are pretty much welded on, but (one-sided) H/W in the latest film is pretty much text, not subtext. Hell, Watson refers to Adler as Holmes' 'muse', and that's the perfect description of how Holmes views her. He's fascinated by her, for sure, and admires her intelligence and cunning - but more as a fanboi than as a crush. Couple that with the fact that at the end, Holmes and Adler are alone on the girder, she's incapacitated, and what does he do? Kiss her - ON THE FOREHEAD. Talk about the opportune moment... Oh, and RDJ has said that he was playing Holmes as a 'butch homosexual', so yeah, I'm taking that as read, same as Johnny and the 'cabin boy!' comment *g*.

Seriously, if that film had been any more camp, Ru Paul would be wearing it as a sparkly, sparkly tiara.

What I'm waiting for are the inevitable RDJ fangirls' endless meta on how progressive and feminist Holmes is. ROFL!!!

From work ...

I find this amusing simply because, up until the very last second, Jack had every intention of stabbing the heart himself, and so becoming the immortal CotFD. Whereas Will had the choice thrust upon him, something that he has his feet held to the fire for, Jack would have chosen to abandon Lizzie willingly. If Jack was so in love with Lizzie, as thought, she was coming in second to his own immortality and sailing the seas forever. She never entered into his thinking that I could see. Another one of the reasons why I'm not a big believer in the J/E love story.

There are a lot of 'ships I don't believe in, but there's only one I've ever had any actual begrudgement for: J/E. That's because the people in every other fandom I was ever in - even the batshit crazy X-Files 'shippers vs. NoRoMos - saw their 'ship as fun, whether it was canon or not. They didn't spend all their time trying to tear down what other people liked.
