Comment to this post with 'comment!' and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

Since I asked for it, she gave me five things, and I shall elaborate:

Journalism - In the strictest sense, not my intended field. About the only thing I had in common with this 19 years ago was I like to write; journalists write. In fact, after my first freshman assignment for the college paper, when my article was ripped to shreds by the editor and pasted back together with more quotes she'd gotten and had attributed to me, I told my roommate, "Boy, am I glad I don't have to go through this every week." I decided I was going to be a lawyer and set about taking Latin and other applicable classes, but eventually I just couldn't see going into that much more debt and three more years of school; so I decided I would write. Something. ANYTHING. Mom heard through the grapevine the newspaper near her was laying off a reporter and might need a new one, so I set up an interview, and voila! 15 years later, still at it after various trials and other short-lived careers (someday I need to make a post about all the jobs I've had). Journalism's changed a lot in that time - hell, anyone with a blog and an opinion can call themselves a "journalist" these days - but I prefer to think there's a certain skill to it that you get by learning from old-time fire and brimstone editors. Like the one I had.

Happy Place - I have NO idea what Molly wants out of this prompt, nor where she came up with it. I'm not always a bitch, but I'm generally anything but happy most of the time. I guess a happy place, though, is where you go to get through your days and keep from climbing the bell tower with a shotgun. For me, that's always looking ahead to the next positive or fun thing I get to do - it can be as elaborate as a planned trip, or as simple as knowing I'll get to chat with people online of an evening. I went through a rough number of years where I was underemployed, overworked, and saddled with an untreated illness (severe hypothyroidism) that left me exhausted and depressed a lot. I found my happy place a lot of times online, in fandom, most times.

Image - I don't know if she means "image" as in photos, or "image" as in how I want to be seen. I'll presume the latter. I'm pretty simple: I prefer to be seen as honest and nonhypocritical. I'm almost always the first and mostly the second, and if I catch myself being hypocritical, or someone else does and points it out, I do examine it and try to remedy it if need be.

Meta - Hoo boy. I don't have much good to say about this. Years ago it was kind of cool in fandom, but since it's become - for me - synonymous with "wank," and not the good kind. I've come to think of things like this: If you want to talk about ideas you have with people and hear their ideas in turn, it's "discussion" - but if you want to spout what you believe to be TRUFAX and blithely ignore any disagreement on the matter, it's "meta." Because the word is used to elevate simple discussion into something it doesn't deserve to be, quite honestly.

Bloomsy - Bloomsy, a.k.a. Das Bloom ... or you may just know him by Orlando. TRUE FACT: I have a friend who, years ago, was just wild about movie-Legolas and I didn't even know the name Orlando Bloom - I thought the guy was played by Ricky Schroeder (the "Silver Spoons" kid? remember?). I used to make fun of his flowing golden hair. *G* It wasn't until I saw POTC and his interaction onscreen with Depp that I liked Bloomsy (as Molly calls him) for his own looks. Since then, he's had several roles and I think he's underrated as an actor. I believe he's criticized for taking such big roles early in his career by hypocrites who would do the same damn thing in their own fields if they but had the opportunity for good pay and power early on, too. I don't blame him a bit - and yet, he's still managed to become involved in several small roles and is planning to do more of those. As long as he's onscreen, I'll go watch.
