Well, since everyone in the free world has likely been keeping up with the Terri Schiavo case, I find myself wondering what my parents would do if I were in the same situation. I am 32 and have made out a living will, etc., for consideration, but with the current political climate affecting the long term, who knows if it will be honored by the courts?

I feel sorry for both the woman and her parents - even for her husband; you can't expect a spouse to stay loyal for that long and not want to move on with their own life if they know you're not coming back (though I understand there's a million dollars at stake that he might get if she dies; I know little about that part of it). But it's time for her to die.

What really puzzles me are the arguments for keeping her alive; not all of them, but the ones put forth by people resorting to religion to make their arguments. So ... harvesting and researching the cloning of stem cells to save people's lives is bad, but keeping someone who should obviously have died 15 years ago on artificial support is also good? I love how these people pick and choose from their religion like a damn buffet when it pleases them, especially with regards to scientific issues. Logic tends to get in the way.

Doesn't this selfsame religion teach mercy and beatitude? Let her go. It would be a blessing for her and, whether they believe it or not right now, her parents in the long run.
