Swann still hasn't learned enough about his own daughter to realize that when he tells her, basically, "Your fiance's screwed, he'll probably die - get over it and move on" that it's like waving a flag at a bull. And the thing is, he MEANS well - I'm sure if Will were a father in 20 years in the same situation, he'd feel the same way about his daughter's life over that of her boyfriend's.
