Well, that makes the second earthquake of some size that I've slept through. The cat was apparently no more impressed than I with whatever shaking might've gone on; I never heard anything out of him. And yet, our area was supposedly one of the hardest hit. Go figure.
Speaking of cats, pparently I now have a second, and Sylvester is not impressed. (I also have a raccoon and a possum, but they are NOT coming inside, despite the fact the raccoon sat up on his haunches and stared in at me for several minutes tonight, mistakenly trying to guilt me into giving him the rest of the Meow Mix. Alas, he cannot be expected to know that I rarely suffer guilt.) I am taking suggestions for his name, though he might well bolt off and disappear after coming back home, if I can ever corral him for the vet to get snipped.
Am trying to be less inclined about getting pissed off about stupid stuff these days. To that end, I haven't looked at
sparrabeth in weeks (I figure any good fic will be crossposted to
pirategasm), dropped
depp_daily once the Drama Llama of the Apocalypse reared her feathery head (after three years without bullshit - oh well, nothing lasts forever), and am avoiding character-abusing fanfic writers like the plague (except for that one who went on this big long explanation as to why she wanted to write something that screwed Will over and, when pressed on it, simply used the "this IS sparrabeth; I'm not sorry" explanation - which was the real one to begin with, duh). I wrote two pages of original fic the other morning and took up the walking again - I figure if I can drop 30 pounds without much trying, maybe I can do better now that I know the hormones are finally functioning the way they're supposed to. I also read an old book by novelist Claire M. Johnson, "Beat Until Stiff," in preparation for trying to get her new one. I read the last half while having a sundae at McDonald's tonight and didn't leave until I'd finished it because I wanted to know how it ended ... and it doesn't! Wah! Now I have to read the sequel! But a good book anyway. *G*

Date: 2008-04-19 05:31 am (UTC)And the poor wee raccoon, standing outside, doing his best Jerry Lewis immitation "Hey, lay-deeeeee!" I feel sorry for him. :)
We, too, were jolted by the same earthquake that rocked your world, but I didn't feel it either. Of course, it was much lighter here. Ironically, I subscribe to an email alert from the US geographical survey that lets me know whenever there's an earthquake in the New Madrid Fault system. Normally, the ones I am alerted to are centered new Memphis. When I saw that these were in Ill., I was really surprised (as I'm sure ppl there were).
BTW, have you been keeping up with the new XF movie? It premieres in July. I can't wait. Ten years is a long time to wait. Hope it doesn't suck. :)

Date: 2008-04-19 08:14 pm (UTC)I've seen a trailer for the movie, but not a "real" trailer - this was shown at some convention, I suppose, and recorded on someone's iPhone. Can I just crab for a minute and say that while I know it can't be avoided, I HATE watching those kinds of videos because of all the screaming fangirls in the background?
Now, do YOU realize the new Indiana Jones movie comes out in a little over a month? And I have seen the trailer for that, and there are some great lines in it.

Date: 2008-04-19 08:11 pm (UTC)If I get to name the cat - if he doesn't run away, or stop coming, and if he ever holds still long enough to be taken to the vet - I've thought seriously about Frank. Because I already have a Sylvester. (It's a Stallone brothers reference - not that I care much for either of them, but I thought it was humorous.)

It's very obvious they don't want questioning of the party line over there, which is why I never joined.

Good luck with the walking.
