When I was at university, I walked a lot for class and work. I listened to a Walkman to pass the time and give myself writing ideas. I still do for fanfic and writing (when I do it). I've listened to a lot of artists across several decades, but one of the most enduring for ideas has been Madonna. She sings about a lot of basic and enduring themes that translate over well to storytelling.
Other good music comes from 70s and 80s supergroups like Foreigner, Toto, Journey, Heart. I do like more modern music - don't get me wrong - but the classics endure.
The one thing I don't do is songfic - putting lyrics into dialogue or such. I let a song inspire me, either figuratively or literally, but not really to the point of incorporating lyrics.
