Stuff, real and nonsense
May. 21st, 2013 01:27 pmReal: The devastation in Oklahoma from the tornadoes this week so far. SO FAR. It's only May, people - as with hurricanes in the Gulf, it's just starting and it won't be better before it's worse. Damn, I feel horrible for the families of those who died, especially all those kids. You think your children are safe in school as long as you think you don't have to worry about shooters or the kind of dangerous crazy that pulls the trigger ... and then something like this that can't be controlled or prosecuted or legislated, happens.
Real: The Obama administration's investigation and possible prosecution of a reporter - any reporter, even from that shithole Fox News - doing a legitimate job of asking questions and printing what they learn, is horseshit. And no, this isn't the first presidential administration to try to silence the press in some way, but it IS the latest and it needs to stop. It's dangerous and stupid, and I really honestly don't care if the reporter doing his job was a compromise to national security. MAYBE YOUR SECURITY NEEDS TO BE BETTER, OR YOU NEED TO TREAT EMPLOYEES IN A WAY THAT THEY DON'T FEEL THE NEED TO SPILL TO THE PRESS. As long as a reporter or editor isn't just making shit up (which we know Fox has a history of doing, but in this case, I think it was an actual stab at journalism), you have an obligation to let them do their job. Feel free to criticize if there's no attempt to get the administration's side of a story, sure - but don't discourage reporters from doing their actual jobs on actual news. We're here for a reason.
Nonsense: Criticism of having a marine hold an umbrella over the president as he speaks in the rain? REALLY? You think that's a genuine thing to bitch about? I'll say this much: I'd sure as hell rather see a marine catch cold from having to stand in the rain for this, than get shot or kill others in an illegal war waged in my name as a citizen of the United States. (And yes, I'm fine with my tax dollars going to pay for his exam and antibiotics and a couple of days off for bed rest. THAT'S something tax dollars should be used for.)
