Dwarf Series 8

I finally got around to beginning to watch the actors' commentary track for Series 8 of Red Dwarf. These people have WAY too much fun; I see why they have other careers than this show (says the queen of changing jobs herself every few years out of fear of boredom), but why they all keep coming back to each new series. Have only listened to the first two eps so far.

Unlike some fans, I quite enjoy S8. Sure, there are some cheap or hackneyed jokes, but this cast is such that even those are funny to watch. Plus, as a fanfic writer, my headcanon is still that it's original!Rimmer as a hologram, after having been Ace for many years. There's just so much can be explained away with this (well, Nat and I sure tried to, anyway!). Anyway, I still love that idea, plot wise and romantically.

LJ problems?

So is nobody updating their journals or commenting, or is LJ just being shitty today?

I hadn't checked my f-list in over four hours, and there is NOTHING new on it. I have a hard time believing that of all the people I have on there, nobody added anything in that amount of time.

DOMA not defended ... this time

A Boston federal appeals court strikes down the federal Defense of Marriage Act

One of the best rebuttals by a justice: “DOMA does not … explain how denying benefits to same-sex couples will reinforce heterosexual marriage,” Judge Boudin wrote.

The decision also noted that "federal lawmakers sought to justify DOMA as a means to defend and nurture traditional, heterosexual marriage." (Hey, want to defend any kind of marriage? Make divorce and annulments illegal. That's how you preserve marriage ... by making something that ends it impossible to obtain. It's kind of like defending your home by traveling to the next state and blowing up someone's house, instead of standing next to your house and shooting at oncomers. That's not defense, that's at best called "a preemptive strike.")
