"Smash" peeps

Is anyone besides me watching "Smash" ... and enjoy the show, the singing, like some of the characters quite a bit, but still side-eye the typical heavy-handed Spielberg preaching in the dialogue and action?

Seriously, I don't like being manipulated into which character I'm supposed to root for or like, or dislike. I enjoy the show, but the dialogue is just so - cheesy, sometimes, and overdone. I understand neither Spielberg nor musicals are about subtlety, really, but man oh man.

Thoughts?
