Because the liberals have too much ammunition to fit in a few pseudo-angry or lighthearted sneer e-mails.
There's this guy I know, old, married, went on a trip with several years ago (don't worry, it wasn't like THAT. It was a wholesome business venture. And there were other people along). He identified himself as a Republican; I have since surmised he is no such thing. He is as diehard a Tea Partyer/Neocon is the day is long. (Do not make the mistake of confusing real GOP values with these extremists looking to gain power no matter what ... in a government they don't approve of existing or doing anything in the first place ... yeah, I can't figure it out either.) Which is fine. That's his business. But he needs to damn well stop forwarding his e-mails about Nancy Pelosi's this and Harry Reid's that, and Barack Obama's so-and-so.
Because, you know, not once in all my years of knowing him have I forwarded him photos from some of those infamous recent war zone military-run prisons. Not once did I forward proof of the Bushes' business and political connections to the bin Ladens, stretching back at least 20 years. Not once did I forward the mounting daily tally of the mounting national war debt, or the mounting daily tally of people losing their jobs, or the mounting daily tally of businesses fleeing overseas for cheaper labor because the conservatives don't like regulations on giving tax breaks to the wealthy. Not once-
You know what? Let's just say there's a LOT I didn't forward over the years. Not because I don't believe enough in what I could select to forward (there's a LOT of crap that gets forwarded around too, that just isn't true. About both sides), but because ... well, you'll read at the end why it isn't very nice.
Of course, I had to chuckle because Mr. Tea's latest e-mail about the evils of dem goshdarn lib'rals came just two days AFTER his whiny e-mail about how he and his wife can't afford to retire ... because of the recession.
Go ahead, soak that one up. I'll come back and let you know once I've figured it out. Don't hold your breath.
The bottom line is I don't do this. I don't impose my political beliefs on anyone unless they ask or the discussion is going on in a public venue where anyone can join in. You want to read this journal? Fine. You disagree with me? Fine. But try to tell me I can't say what I want here? You don't have to read it. This is my blog - it will be here no matter who reads it, or doesn't read it. I am not actively spamming anyone who does not choose to be spammed with my mental ramblings. I am about ready to remove this person from my e-mail receipt list, and I may not even warn him I'm doing so.
So, at long last, HERE IS MY ADVICE for all the conservatives on my f-list who may be doing this to friends and family that you know do not agree with your views, for the sheer pleasure of trying to give them hell (and you few liberals who have the time to sit and type out all those things, I suppose): Unless you want them to block you or change their address, or fly off and yell at you someday, you may want to stop. You're not changing their minds. You're not enlightening them. You're not endearing yourself to them in the least. When I get an e-mail from someone whose name I recognize, I expect it to be something other than the Viagra and Nigerian-prince-looking-to-give-away-money spam.
(For the record, those people probably don't appreciate your religious e-mails either, unless they go to the same church with you. But I give a free pass to the ones I get that don't also involve how Sarah Palin is the second incarnation of Mother Mary, or how God blesses our wars.)
P.S. And no, I don't reply to those e-mails either. Because I'm already aware I'm not going to change their minds with my own opinion!
