fandomsecrets is AWESOMESAUCE. It's a great microcosm of psychology right there to be messy and examined and head-scratched over every day (even the deliberately wanky ones). I especially love how anytime there's a feminist-related secret posted and there's anybody who suggests there might be a kernel of truth to the idea that fandom pheminists are a bunch of overly bossy Nellies (and I'm not talking about the obvious "women are such shit, go DIAF bitch" trolls), a pile of about 15 to 20 commenters jump on them with zingy one-liners and insults instead of asking why they feel that way, or opening some sort of reasoned discussion. Because, you know, that's the way an educated feminist enlightens people and contradicts such opinions - by acting into their own worst stereotype right off the bat.
And then there's the "those awful, awful women in slash are all female-haters betraying their own gender! Why oh WEEPING why don't they find females as interesting to write!" *handwring* - How come nobody ever stops for 30 seconds to reason that much of m/m slash fandom is female and, as such, probably likes spending their off-hours looking at and thinking of pretty men for their mental wank? (Seriously. Where did the logic crawl off to and die on this one?)
It really makes me wonder if they're really women, or even girls - surely so many females of a certain age (older than 13) couldn't be THAT clueless about basic psychology and its effects on opinions. I think it's a bunch of frat boys completing a haze, myself ....
