Believe it or not, a J/E rec from me, written for the
merrypirates challenge - Facades by
penknife.
I have really developed an aversion to J/E because of how it's often written, both in regards to Will and what those stories do to Jack and Elizabeth. And if J/E is NOT your cup whatsoever, this isn't for you - but I've always been willing to read outside my comfort zone, provided the reward was good enough. It's an interesting story that engages the reader, and deals with the problems Jack and Elizabeth would have - not all of them, of course, but enough to humanize them and make it clear their affair is not easily undertaken. (Plus, it features an Elizabeth strong enough to be the pirate king her fans like, but unsure enough to still be 23 years old and relatable. I like her neither hard-bitten nor weepy.)
