Your moment of zen
Sep. 29th, 2008 01:20 pm(Yes, this is MY icon. MINE, not my sister's. She used it first, but it was made for me, and she is clearly a thief. Or a pirate. Just a matter of hygiene, really.)
The other night, I re-watched a History Channel program about the Earth and plate tectonics. The scientists showed the shifting of the continents over the last few billion years with time-lapse *salivates* as well as the movement of glaciers and seismic activity forcing land masses apart. It projected out that in 2 billion years, Earth will be a dried-up rock whose molten core has hardened and geothermal activity has died. It made a point of noting it would be devoid of water and life, as well.
Last night, I re-watched a History Channel program about the beginning and projected end of the universe. In the course of everything eventually blowing apart from overexpansion someday, it was noted how in 5 billion years the sun will blow, expanding outward and swallowing out to a few planets - including the Earth - BOILING AWAY ITS OCEANS and rendering it a LIFELESS HULK. Y'know, 'cause they'd still exist then.
In case you don't count that high, 5 is more than 2, and 5 billion is a LOT more than 2 billion. I guess the producers never sat down over a cuppa to compare notes. :-P
