So, discussion question - can be about any fandom, any work of fiction, any movie or book: If you dislike a female character, or you write male slash, are you automatically a misogynist?

Anytime I see a post about how awful fangirls are for writing m/m slash because it neglects female characters - and boy, there've been a lot in my almost 5 years on LJ - there are usually 900 responses of "WORD" and much high-fiving one another - and Dog protect you if you disagree by pointing out "But maybe there ARE reasons to dislike Lana Lang ... much as there are reasons to dislike Lex Luthor or even Superman."

I understand gripes about sexism; it's still alive and well in our society. And there are undoubtedly slash writers who treat female characters worse than they deserve. But do resist the urge to lump us all together; just because I write dueling cocks doesn't mean I hate women, yo. And don't artificially elevate female characters above male characters based on gender - that's sexist right there because it implies their main worth is in what is between their legs. (Why, it'd be like shielding a female candidate for public office from the press when you don't do the same for a male candidate.)

Nope, no POTC impetus for this post, incredibly enough. Just a disparity I see between fictional opinions and real life political ones in some of the same fans around LJ. (And it goes without saying that you're free to disagree - aren't you always? *G*)
