The woman he loved, had offered blood to save, had set sail in little more than her promise and Swann’s old greatcoat to liberate. The man he’d thrown rules aside for, had risked his life upon.

Friends.

Kissing each other.

Will had been foolish for love, foolish for principle, foolish for filial duty. Resentment roiled beneath his skin, because even now, he couldn’t strongly hate any of them beyond a few hours.

Perhaps he was just a fool in this congress of misfits. But fools are often underestimated, he cogitated, scoring the table with Bill’s knife.
