When are the silly bints in fandom going to get their Will-criticism correct?
He never held their perfect warrior Amazon Elizabeth back from doing a thing. He never told her not to fight. He never told her to keep her mouth shut. He never denied her anything. He only ever asked two favors of her in the entire storyline. Nor did he get all uptight about the fact a woman saved his ass a couple of times. He certainly didn't think she was ever the "fragile governor's daughter," at least not after he saw her fight, one would figure. In fact, if anything, HE is the one who taught and enabled her to become the fighter she eventually did. (Which is partly why I love the character - how many strong men in fiction are absolutely unthreatened by the prowess and potential of a woman showing them up at their best skill?)
These dumbasses really need to quit bellyaching how Barbossa or Sparrow would "give her freedom" and "let her be who she really is" as opposed to Will - if anything, they both strike me as
more likely to lay a possessive claim on her if they thought she was "with" either of them. (Look how they fight over a SHIP, for pete's sake.) Is THIS why they hate Will? Based on some halfassed, incorrect assessment of his character?
Yeah, the fucking whining goes on in barbossabeth fandom now, too. I've also seen glimpses of it in norribeth. I don't know why I expected better from those fans than from the sparrabeth chorus, but I did. I suppose every corner of fandom has idiots who know nothing about characterization and only the dirtiest parts about pr0n.
EDIT: To mitigate the bitching - I'm not into W/E, but this is just too cute:
