cheaper iPod
Sep. 7th, 2007 02:18 amI'm all about looking for less expensive alternatives to things, so I thought I should share, since there are others on my f-list who are, shall we say, cash-impaired. I've been thinking of an iPod for a couple of years, but so far, haven't wanted to pony up the cash for it.
Well, last night at Best Buy I found this, which is ostensibly to load Disney songs into, but can handle any sound (or even data) files. I'm not sure if an iPod works exactly the same way, but it's basically a big flash drive you stick into a USB drive and click-and-drag songs onto its window; it also charges its battery in the USB drive. Anyway, it alleges an 8-10 hour battery between charges and in 512K claims it can hold up to 140 .wma songs (plus, there's room for a 1G-2G memory card that can be added in for more). I've tested it a little and it seems to work really well.
The price tag on this at BB was less than $38, including tax. It holds about half what the regular 1G iPods would - which were being sold elsewhere in the store for $80 before tax. I used to walk with a Walkman, which also served to give me writing ideas way back in college, and this is a lot more convenient, yet holds more on it. I'm hoping to get back to both the walking AND the ideas.
(And if you buy one and like it and wish to thank me, uploaded songs are always welcome. *G*)
