Warm up, shower ...

So here I sit waiting for the hot water tank to refill at my parents' house, where I am spending my week's vacation. I always dread following my sister in the bathroom because she has the habit of draining every bit of hot water from the reserves, and I don't like cold showers even in the summertime. We're supposed to leave in an hour or so to have lunch with a friend of hers, so I'm thinking *Gee, it's good my hair is somewhat short and dries fast.* (I hate using hair dryers.) I've been reading some e-mail from the past few days while waiting, and it seems a friend who has been having some problems lately has gotten some preliminary help and seems a bit more cheerful in her correspondence the last few days, which is good. I can deal with the problems of friends, I just wish for their sakes they didn't have them in the first place (which I also wish about me when I have a problem). There's your profound observation for the day.

I brought my work laptop with me because my boss said he didn't mind, and my mother tells my sister, "She's probably working on an article to send in next week while she's on VACATION." Well, yeah, there was this feature I had thought about finishing and I did bring my notes for it just in case ... I told my editor before I left that I might or might not send it in while I was gone, and he fixed me with this expression of And I care because ...? Gosh, I guess I'm not the cog that holds the place together, after all. :-P (Last week, I mentioned to him I'd finish and send it, and he says, "You're going to write on VACATION?" A habit of six years is hard to break - I haven't had a paid vacation since 2000 - when you are self-employed, you either do a bunch of work ahead of time or afterwards so as not to lose income, or you do some work while on vacation. That's the way it goes - or went, anyway.)

So while waiting for my sister and the shower to warm back up, I trolled a few journals through links in others, that I hadn't visited before - not leaving comments, just reading (maybe "lurk" is more accurate). And I found one where a woman is STILL whining at this late date about how the fans who don't like Elizabeth are all anti-woman, minor-character-praising, male-glorifying pigs. Didn't we have that war over a month ago and finish it up? I know I've written a LOT against it over the past year, but I took that whole kerfluffle as a sign that the feminazi bullshit was pretty much in the "give it a rest, Fred" category, at least for that fandom.

OK. I'm gonna give the shower a try. God only knows if I can eke out enough hot water for my hair, at least. *sighhhhh*
