I R A LICENZED DRIVR AT LAST
Jul. 18th, 2007 07:59 pmAnd an official resident of the Great State of Where I Live. I've spent four months dreading that damn written exam, and I aced all 50 questions. Helluva lot better than I did at 16, when I barely passed the damn thing. Heh. Should've made me a copy so I can tote it to the DMV of the next state where I move and shove it at them. "See?" I'd say. "I don't need to take your stinkin' test! You can't do better than 100!" (Tennessee didn't make me take a written test, or go in in person to renew my license after five years. Then again, Tennessee would've probably given Sylvester a license if I'd loaded him up in the catbox to take him in for a photo.)
We went through 30 minutes of paperwork, title surrender, voter registration ... only for my license to come out with the wrong last name, one letter off. Well, of course they couldn't just go in and change one letter ... so we went through another 30 minutes of paperwork for the DMV to correct everything. At least they were friendly.
I was chatting with my friend Lisa yesterday afternoon at work and she hasn't been to see AWE because she is too pregnant to enjoy sitting through much of anything. I told her I was going to send her the links to a couple of recent fanfics, then it occurred to me she'd need to know how AWE turned out. I asked if she minded spoilers. "Nah," she wrote back to me. "Did Elizabeth and Jack get together?"
"Aw, MAN, you're not one of them, are you?" I groaned.
"Not really," she answers. "I rather liked the Commodore guy; he was in a BBC show I liked." (Which gave me the unfortunately amusing image of a band known as Steve and the Commodores, with JackDav singing front and the backups the actors who played Patrick, Jeff, and Oliver. Although, why they were all dressed as a cross between the Blues Brothers and lumberjacks is beyond me.)
And, a story rec. A lovely little story by one of my f-listers called Even Heroes Need a Holiday. It's Turrow, it's smut, it's sandscastles, and injuries, and tickling and sand!sex and a great deal of the humor some of the fic in this fandom has been lacking for a LONG time.
