There has to be a way
May. 7th, 2007 06:14 pmGenerally speaking, we fans all got along so well for three years. I know some of your individual stories concerning conflicts within the POTC community during that time; I'm not trying to minimize those. But by and large, weren't we all fairly okay until last July? Or were we honestly not? I'm not trolling for reasons why - we've all expressed that enough. But why haven't we been able to get past what should be a fairly minor kerfluffle?
I read a comment with respect to fandom etiquette today: People forget there is a human being on the other side of this screen. Now this was stated by someone who might well be one of the worst stick-pokers in fandom. Or not. Point is, it's a pretty pathetic comment - not the person who said it, just that we might forget it's true and have to be reminded. Just as we have to be asked to be civil - not friendly, not loving, not even nice necessarily, just "civil."
I'm not being emo (mainly because I can't think of it without conjuring up the name "Emo Spidey" and laughing myself sick). I'm not telling you to be civil. I'm wondering why we can't always be. Me included. I know a lot of us try for 100 percent, and for some of us it's sometimes hard no matter what our age or maturity level out in the "real world." But I see people who manage it pretty close to all the time. That's my goal, whether I hit it or not anytime soon.
How do you see yourself with respect to this kind of thing?
