I had a job interview over the weekend, in another state. It went well, but this is the sort of situation where if I'm hired really will be determined by how many others are more qualified than I am, not by my own viability as a candidate - I have no feeling that I screwed up in some way, no head-banging "D'oh!" moments from the interview to regret. It's just a matter of whether there are 50 other people who want the job and if any are more desirable to fill it both for qualifications and personality. I should know something in a few weeks.

So, there you go. *shrug* I'm pretty sanguine about it. I can live here a bit longer if I need to, and do what I do already.

I'm going to do something a bit unusual for me and recommend a J/E story [livejournal.com profile] penknife wrote, located here. Aside from my little annoyances with Elizabeth, my biggest problem is that she doesn't seem to suffer or regret any of her decisions that hurt good people along the way, despite her protestations of personal morality. If she's not going to be repentant, I would at least like to see her acknowledge what she is, and this story seems to do that pretty well. She's the main POV character, she takes a fair amount of criticism from Jack, Will, and Barbossa ... but still manages to be somewhat sympathetic, mainly because she seems aware she can't have it all and acknowledges what she's giving up.

EDIT TO ADD: [livejournal.com profile] pseudoblu went to the trouble of transcribing the entire writers' commentary from DMC if anyone wants to have a lookie-see. It's been fun to read as she's gone along and posted it, and I daresay it'll be a valuable resource for anyone who wants to get some fic or meta ideas to while away a free hour or two. *G*

A long time ago, I used to write het because my preferred pairings just happened to BE het - pretty much all in the "Star Trek" worlds. (In fact, the only fandom in which I just read and didn't write anything was also my first slash - Face/Murdock in "The A-Team.") I started out with Data/Tasha and a few years later, moved on to the relatively rare-pair of Janeway/Barclay. This story is about five years old - and there are sequels (in the spirit of "Contradictions"), though I never finished my whole long story-arc on this couple. Bear in mind I haven't changed anything about these since I first posted them elsewhere all those years ago, so feel free to laugh - I don't promise it'll be perfect, just mildly entertaining. *G*

“Breaking Command”
Rating: NC-17
Fandom: “Star Trek: Voyager”
Pairing: Janeway/Barclay
Summary: This takes place after the events in the series finale, “Endgame.” Kathryn Janeway’s spent seven years flying the not-so-friendly skies of the Delta Quadrant but has managed to keep almost everyone alive and the ship intact. Reg Barclay’s spent years working on a way to communicate with and bring the crew home safely before the projected decades-long arrival predicted for them, and succeeded at least partly. Who’s the hero and who’s the worshiper, here?

The captain maintained her unflappability, however, and pasted on the calm, aloof smile she'd come to appreciate having in her mental store since starting these inane interviews )
