As a journalist, I've gotten to the point where I like to backtrack to the original source of a real-life story before believing it or passing it along. Mea culpa. I've not had that time on this score - however, this is one of those rare things that even if the specific case WEREN'T true, we know it happens and has happened and given human nature, is likely to keep happening so long as people draw breath. People won't stop acting in hate and sadism, but condemning it openly might make some idiot stop and think, someday, before they do something incredibly stupid and fatal.
One in six hate crimes are motivated by the victim's sexual orientation.
